Minot drops game two, wins game three over La Crosse

La Crosse made the trip to Minot for four games, a doubleheader on Tuesday, July 30, and another doubleheader on Wednesday, July 31, at Corbett Field. The Steam won game one and game two on Tuesday while Minot won game three by ten run rule.

Game four started after 8:30 p.m. and will be reported on tomorrow.

Bombshells 10, La Crosse Steam 0

Sydney Farmer was the second batter at the bottom of the sixth inning, with Abbie Stigler at first after being walked. Two pitches later and the game was over. Farmer took the first pitch foul and sent the second pitch over the fence to left field for a two run home run and the 10-0 win.

Minot took an early 1-0 lead at the bottom of the first inning when Shayna Myshrall advanced to first base and Stigler scored on the same wild pitch error. The Bombshells added two runs at the bottom of the third inning. Shannon Nelson was walked and Trinity Gregg reached base on an error. Stigler hit into a fielder’s choice play that scored Nelson. Farmer hit into a second fielder’s choice to score Gregg.

The highest scoring inning was the bottom of the fourth for Minot. Josie Buhr was walked and Jasmine Blizzard bunted into a sacrifice bunt that turned into a run scored by Buhr. Nelson was walked, Gregg singled and Stigler singled to score Nelson.

Farmer was hit by a pitch to load the bases again. Myshrall doubled to center field and scored Gregg and Stigler for the four runs and a 7-0 lead going into the fifth inning of play.

Minot was 8-for-24 at the plate with no errors. Gregg was 2-for-4 batting and scored two runs. Stigler, Farmer, Myshrall, Buhr, Blizzard and Dominique Baker each added hits. Myshrall had three RBIs while Farmer and Stigler each had two RBIs in the game.

Jackie Albrecht pitched five innings and allowed one hit, walked three batters and recorded four strikeouts. Jasmine Blizzard pitched one inning and allowed one hit and walked two batters in relief.

La Crosse was 2-for-19 batting with five errors as a team. Grace Frachette and Kelsey Kiesau each had a hit. Rachel Mori pitched three and two-third innings and allowed seven runs- one earned- on four hits, walked two batters and tallied two strikeouts. Alexis Watson pitched one and one-third innings and allowed three runs on four hits and allowed one home run.

La Crosse Steam 7, Honeybees 2

The Honeybees began the game behind after La Crosse crossed home plate at the top of the first inning four times. Minot halved that margin with two runs at the bottom of the same inning, but were unable to add more offense as the Steam took the second game of the doubleheader 7-2 at Corbett Field.

Trinity Gregg was walked to start the game for Minot. Abbie Stigler reached base on error. Sydney Farmer hit a sacrifice fly for the first out and scored Gregg. Shayna Myshrall doubled to right field to score Stigler for the two runs scored by the Honeybees.

Minot was 3-for-23 at the plate with three errors as a team. Gregg, Myshrall and Josie Buhr had the three hits in the game. Farmer and Myshrall had the two RBIs for the team.

Payton Whitehead pitched two and two-third innings and allowed four runs on four hits, walked five batters and tallied three strikeouts and allowed one home run. Jenna Boos pitched four and one-third innings and allowed three runs- one earned- on five hits with two walked batters and three recorded strikeouts in relief.

La Crosse was 9-for-30 batting with one error as a team. Avary Makarewicz and Calli Janik were each 2-for-3 at the plate while Teagan Graul was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a home run in the win. MacKenzie Willis pitched all seven innings and allowed two runs on three hits, walked two batters and recorded eight strikeouts in the game.
