Honeybees fall in one game stand

The Minot HoneyBees (5-22) visited the La Crosse Steam (10-18) on Wednesday,July 24, in a battle between northwest league teams at Copeland Park in La Crosse, WI. The Steam were just above the Honeybees in league standings and the 3-1 win by La Crosse kept the league standings as they were.

The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the third inning, when La Crosse churned out three runs to take the game’s first lead.

Grace Frechette scored on a play that advanced Calli Janik to first base. Avary Makarewicz scored the second run on Teagan Graul single to left field. Janik scored the third run on a bases-loaded walk that advanced Ashley Wolfe to first base. La Crosse led 3-0 at the end of three.

The Honeybees responded in the top of the fourth inning with a Sydeny Farmer solo home run that put a run on the board. La Crosse led 3-1 midway through the fourth inning.

The Honeybees batted 1-for-24 and had two errors in the game. Farmer batted 1-for-3, scored one run, a home run and had one RBI.

Jackie Albrecht pitched five and two-third innings, allowed three hits, three runs, walked eight and struck out 10 batters. Jasmine Blizzard pitched one-third of an inning and struck out one batter.

La Crosse batted 3-for-23 and had two errors. Wolfe had one RBI and walked twice. Ashlee Chantos walked once. Frechette scored a run and walked once. Makarewicz scored a run and walked twice. Janik scored a run and had a RBI. Graul batted 1-for-3 and had a RBI. Katie Beagle batted 1-for-3. Lindsey Shultz batted 1-for-1 and walked twice.

Mackenzie Willis pitched seven innings, allowed one hit, one run, walked two and struck out seven batters.

The Honeybees will play back to back doubleheaders in their next two series. They will start with the Madison Night Mares on Friday, July 26, before visiting La Crosse Steam for two games on Saturday.
