Rostad tied for third, Sentinels tied for fifth

GRAND FORKS – In a windy round two that affected the scoring across the board, Minot North junior Kasen Rostad shot an 80 to finish with a two round total of 155 and tied with Bismarck Century senior Cole Kinsella and Bismarck St. Mary’s sophomore Quinn Shillingstad for third place overall at the 2024 NDHSAA Boys Class A State golf tournament Wednesday, June 5, at the Kings Walk golf course in Grand Forks.
The Sentinels shot a team score of 648 and tied with the West Fargo Packers for fifth place overall at the event. Grand Forks Red River would win the state title with a combined score of 623 – 311 from round one, 312 from round two – while Fargo North finished at second with a 627 team score. Bismarck Century was third with 634 and West Fargo Sheyenne rounded out the top four with a 645 at the event.
The Roughriders had four of the top ten scores at the state tournament and their fifth golfer was tied at 14th overall with a score of 160 for the event. Unsurprising as the venue was in their backyard.
Fargo North senior Carson Hannestad combined a round one 68 with a round two 76 for a total of 144 and the 2024 NDHSAA Boys Class A medalist title in first place. Bismarck Century senior Lucas Schoepp shot a 152 (73, 79) for second place at the event.
Minot High shot a round one 339 and battled elements with a second round 363 for a combined 702 and a 12th place finish at the state tournament.
After Rostad carded 75 in round one and 80 in round two for 155 and tied for third place, junior Bennett Bartsch totaled 162 (76, 86) and tied for 19th with three other golfers. One of those who tied for 19th with the 162 was fellow Sentinel, junior Tyler Bast with scores of 81 and 81 for the two rounds.
Minot North sophomore Walter Langhans shot a combined 169 (84, 85) while sophomore Kyler Weishaar was at 174 (85, 89) and eighth grader Teegan Dangel hit 179 (90, 89) for the Sentinels.
Minot High eighth grader Parker Argent shot 168 (79, 89) and tied with three others at 38th at the tournament. Freshman Easton Bradley hit 174 (83, 91) while freshman Connor Ressler was at 178 (88, 90) for the Magi. Minot High freshman Nathan Peterson and junior Carter Dunstan each had 184 while sophomore Mattson Burckhard was at 198 for the Magi and was one of the few players who scored better in round two than at round one.
