Two Stand On Top Of The Podium
BISMARK – The 2024 NDHSAA State Track & Field Meet got underway today at Bismarck State College in Bismarck, N.D. The competition is set to take place May 23-25 and will have competitors from both Class A and Class B in action.
Some of the local teams that are competing at the event include: Minot High, Minot North, and Bishop Ryan.
Minot High senior Logan Conklin made a success of his year-long training and got a hold of a state title on the first day of the state meet.
Conklin finished first place in the Men’s Class A High jump by hitting a personal best mark of 6-08. Devils Lake junior Joel Nelson finished 9th with a 5-10 mark.
Des-Lacs Burlington/ Lewis and Clark sophomore Brynn Hanson ran a personal best time of 11:27:68 to place first in the Women’s Class B 3200-meter event.
Hazen sprinters (Bennett Kilwein, Mark Lora, Wyatt Grueneich, Brady Braithwaite) ran a personal best time of 1:31:92 to finish third place in Class B Men 4×200 prelims.
Beulah sophomore Malayah Williams placed fourth in the Women’s Class B shot put with a 37-02 throw. Bishop Ryan senior Coy Okeson placed 10th in the Class B Men’s shot put with a 46-07.5 mark.
Velva-Drake/Anamoose quartet (Chloe Cadwell, Evelyn Isaak, Rylie Weninger, Anya Olson) placed sixth in the Women’s Class B 4×200 relay with a 1:48:93 time.
In Class A competition, Minot High eight-grader Lucy Harris ran a personal best time of 11:50:82 to finish seventh in the girls 3200.
Minot High (Haleigh Carr, Maicee Burke, Eve Knutson, Makayla Whitfield) ran a time of 1:46:62 to place seventh in the girls Class A 4×200 relay prelims.
Rugby junior Ashley Martodam placed seventh in the Women’s Class B long jump with a 16-07 mark and Nedrose senior Kaydee Boyceo finished eighth with a 16-07 jump.
In the 4×200 relay prelims, Minot High boys ran a personal best time 1:29:58 (Aaron Prestwich, Tyson Ruzicka, Harrison Stewart, James Pallotta) to finish eighth place in Class A.
In the men’s 3200, Minot High junior Dallin Chapman ran a personal time of 10:07:03 to finish the season on a high note .

More noticeable finishes in the boys high jump include: Minot High junior Lincoln Brooks placing 13th with a 5-10 mark and Devils Lake junior Oliver Wirth at claiming 15th with a 5-10 mark.
Minot North also ran a personal best in the Men’s Class A 4×200 relay with a time of 1:35:20.
Women’s Class B shot put also saw Rugby Riley Bonebrake placed 11th with a 35-01 mark, Hazen Jenneva Ward placed 14th with a 33-07 mark, Rugby Miryilyn Migler throwing a personal best mark of 33-06 to finish 15th, Velva-Drake/Anamoose Mariah Mack placing 17th with a 32-07 mark, and Nedrose Maycee Boyce finished 18th after throwing a 32-07 mark.
Honorable Mentions in the Class B Men’s shot put includes: Beulah senior Simon Bunchfinck throwing personal best of 46-03 to place 11th, Bishop Ryan sophomore Cade Okseon throwing 45-07 to place 13th and Stanley freshman Ben Hynek throwing 44-06 to place 19th.
Class A Men’s high jump also had the following performances: Minot High junior Lincoln Brooks placing 13th with a 5-10 mark and Devils Lake junior Oliver Wirth at 15th with a 5-10 mark.
Minot North junior Josie Rysetedt hit a mark of 108-03 to place 20th, while Minot senior Eve Bland hit a mark of 107-09 to place 21st in the Class A girls discus.
Other finishers in the Women’s Class B 3200 are: Stanley junior Harley Detienne placing 15th with a personal best time of 12:45:51 and Rugby eighth-grader Kathryn Kuntz placing 20th with a 12:56:08 time.
In Class B girls pole vault, Rugby Sam Blessum placed 17th with a 8-06 mark, while teammate Haley Mayer placed 18th with a 8-00 mark.
