Majettes split games at Dickinson Jamboree

DICKINSON – The Majettes made the trek to Dickinson for non-conference games in the jamboree hosted by the Midgets. Minot High is currently in second place in the Western Dakota Association (WDA) standings at 4-0 in conference and 9-2 overall. Minot High is behind Jamestown at 6-0 and 10-2 and ahead of the third place Dickinson at 5-1 and 10-1 overall.

Minot High 20, Beulah 1

The Majettes scored five runs in the third inning, four runs in the fifth inning and ten runs in the sixth inning to overwhelm the Miners from Beulah at the jamboree.

Junior Journey Larson was 3 of 4 batting with four RBIs and scored four runs for Minot High. Senior Tayler Falcon was 2 of 4 at the plate and had two RBIs for the Majettes. Junior Halle Baker was 2 of 3 batting and also had two RBIs. Senior Avery Lunde was 1 of 5 batting and added two RBIs for Minot High.

The telling stat line for the winners was how many batters were walked by the Miners. With 32 at bats for the Majettes, 14 batters were walked. With that many players on base, the ten hits by Minot High came at the right moments to score runs.

Baker pitched five innings and allowed one run on five hits, walked two batters and struck out six as well. The Majettes played error free ball while the Miners committed seven errors.

Dickinson 6, Minot High 3

In a rematch of last year’s state final, the Minot High Majettes were unable to exact revenge on Dickinson, as the Midgets scored first in the bottom of the fourth inning with three runs to outlast Minot High. Dickinson followed up in the sixth with three additional runs. Trailing 6-0 at the top of the seventh inning, the Majettes were finally able to get an offense going.

Minot High’s Bartch reached first base on an overthrow by the second baseman and was able to advance to second on the same error. Junior Kami Garaas then hit a fly ball and reached first base, scoring Bartch with the hit. Senior Majette Isabelle Anderson singled and advanced Garaas to second. Isabelle’s sister Ellington came in to run for her sibling.

Garaas advanced to third base on a wild pitch and E. Anderson advanced to second. Minot High junior Gabbi Rohrer singles on a pop fly and the ensuing ball placement between Midget defenders allows both E. Anderson and Garaas to score as Rohrer advances to second and is thrown out in the attempt. The next two batters ground out and struck out to end the game.

Minot High was 5 of 26 from the plate and no batters walked this game. Bartch pitched five and one-third innings allowing six runs on seven hits. She walked four batters and struck out three as well. Junior Majette Raegan Terrel pitched two-thirds of an inning and allowed no runs on one hit, struck out one batter and walked another.

Minot High will be the visitors in the doubleheader with Minot North today and make the trip back to Dickinson for a conference doubleheader with the Midgets on Tuesday, April 23, and back home to host Jamestown on Thursday, April 25, at the South Hills Complex.
