Majettes place third, Sentinels eighth at local track and field meet

Several schools made the windy trip to Minot to attend the Glee Mayer Invitational held at Duane Carlson Stadium for a girls track and field competition. Bismarck High claimed top honors at 166 team points with Bismarck Century in second with 120 and Minot High in third with 115 team points. Nine teams in all participated in the events, including Minot North, Dickinson, Bismarck Legacy, Mandan, Watford CIty and WIlliston.

Minot High and Minot North were well represented in the top eight of the 3200-meter run. Eighth grader Kaylee Jackson finished first for the Majettes with a time of 12:23.97and sophomore Scout Ulrickson took second with a time of 12:33.21 for Minot High as well. Minot North eighth graders Alyviah Kopp and Makenna Jackson finished fifth and seventh respectively while Majette eighth grader Grace Burdick placed eighth in the race.

Minot High sophomore Eve Knutson won the 300 hurdles with a top time of 47.64 while junior teammate Haley Conklin was fourth at 50.77 in the race. In the 100 hurdles, Conklin took second place with a 16.76 time while sophomore Monica Boakye was third at 16.77 for Minot High. Majette junior Haleigh Carr was sixth and Sentinel sophomore Ayla Jackson placed eighth in the event. Conklin was also fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 33-6 on the windy day.

Minot High senior Makayla Whitfield took second place in the 200 with a time of 26.09 and third in the 100 with a time of 13.01 while teammate sophomore Kadyn Braun was eighth in the 100 and senior Maciee Burke was eighth in the 200 as well. Minot High eighth grader Lucy Harris finished fifth in the 1600 and sixth in the 800 at the meet.

Minot North sophomore McKinnley Kragh was sixth in the pole vault and Minot High senior Sylvia Cowper was seventh, each clearing 8-3 at the meet. Sentinel junior Josie Rystedt finished fifth in the shot put with a toss of 34-7, a personal record.

Minot finished in second place in the 4×100 relay. The team of Boakye, Braun, Whitfield and Burke ran a 51.17 in the event. Majettes Boakye, Whitfield, Burke and sophomore Eve Knutson ran a 1:49.82 for a second place finish in the 4×200 relay. Minot High’s eighth grader Kaylee Jackson, junior Nicole Couture, senior Mandy Schmidt and Ulrickson placed second in the 4×800 relay with a time of 10:42.65 at the meet.

The next girls track and field meet will be the Jamestown Meet today, April 23 and the Dickinson Boys & Girls meet on Saturday, April 27.
