Beavers women’s wrestling gets split in pair of home duals

MSU Athletics Minot State’s Bella Hernandez throws Dakota Wesleyan’s Mady Sargent to the mat as she goes for the pin in the Beavers’ 25-15 dual over the Tigers on Thursday at the MSU Dome.

Bella Hernandez led the way for the Minot State women’s wrestling team, picking up a pair of wins that included one by pin as the Beavers beat Dakota Wesleyan 25-15, but fell to Chadron State (Neb.) 37-12 in a tri-dual Thursday at the MSU Dome.

The Beavers now are quickly back in action as they host Sioux Falls on Friday at 7 p.m. in the finale of a wrestling extravaganza at the Minot Municipal Auditorium.

Thursday at the MSU Dome, Hernandez collected a win by forfeit to start the day in the dual against the Chadron Eagles, then won by pin in 1 minute, 5 seconds over Mady Sargent of the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers in their 130-pound match.

The Beavers (6-7 duals) added wins by forfeit for Skye Shelmerdine (116), Jazmin Gorder (123), Haleigh Lematta (143), and Madison Parson (191) to wrap up the victory over the Tigers.

In their dual against the Eagles, Keela Kary added a win by forfeit at 136 pounds for the Beavers, who also got a single team point each from Shelmerdine and Gorder, despite losses.

In Thursday’s third dual, Chadron State beat Dakota Wesleyan, 35-5.
