MSU golf teams tee off fall season, play at Mavericks tourney Aug. 28-29

The championships might not be until April, but the start to a long season for the Minot State golf teams begins the final week of August as head coach Eli Mihalick is pleased to announce his teams’ fall schedules.

The Beaver men’s and women’s golf teams hit the course for six events in the fall starting the season at the Maverick Invitational hosted by Minnesota State, Mankato at the Faribault Golf Club in Faribault, Minnesota on August 28-29.

“We have our usual schedule this fall with the addition of the Mankato – Concordia, St. Paul Fall Brawl in Hudson, Wisconsin hosted at Troy Burne, a course that has hosted past Korn Ferry Tour events and USGA local qualifying, so it should be a good test for the teams, and one we are excited to get to experience along with our other great tracks that round out our fall schedule” Mihalick said.

The Fall Brawl is third on the schedule for the Beavers, who follow up the opener playing at Bemidji State’s annual Men’s Fall Invitational, and the Tracy Lane Invitational for the women, Sept. 11-12 at the Bemidji Town & Country Club.

Then comes the CSP-MSU Fall Brawl on Sept. 17-18 at the Troy Burne Golf Club in Wisconsin before the Beavers tee off at the Watkins Fall Invitational hosted by Winona State in Lake City, Minnesota on Sept. 25-26.

Minot State makes its one in-state appearance the opening weekend of October, playing at the Hawktree Golf Course in Bismarck at the University of Mary’s Marauder Fall Invite on Oct. 2-3, then the Beavers wrap up the fall schedule playing at the University of Sioux Fall’s Fall Invitational hosted at The Falls Golf Course in Larchwood, Iowa on Oct. 9-10.

“We’re very excited to get this season off and running,” Coach Mihalick said. “We have quite a few new faces on the men’s side that should come in and compete for playing time right away and should provide a much more competitive atmosphere and team overall.

“Our women’s team returns everyone with one new incoming freshman who should make an impact right away as well,” Minot State’s coach added, “and our returning core should continue to develop and push the rest of the team in the right direction.”

Following the USF Fall Invitational, the Beavers take a few months off before returning to the course in the spring in preparation for the NSIC Championships held April 19-21 at Adams Pointe Golf Club in Blue Springs, Missouri for the men and April 26-28 at Paradise Pointe Golf Complex in Smithville, Missouri for the women.
