Minot High track teams sweep through Williston meet

WILLISTON – The Minot High boys’ and girls’ track and field teams got the second indoor meet under their belts on Friday, as they participated in the Williston WDA Indoor at the Williston ARC.

In a four-team field, Minot High matched up against Dickinson, Watford City and Williston. With an excellent showing, Minot High pulled off a sweep, as their team score of 215 put the Magi in first place and their score of 220.33 earned the Majettes a first-place finish as well.

On the boys’ side, Minot’s score of 215 put them in first, followed by Williston (124), Dickinson (94) and Watford City (61) to round out the team scoring.

Looking at an individual level, Jayden Speraw (7.19, 60 Meter Dash); Tyson Ruzicka (24.06, 200 Meters); Tavion Bobo (54.63, 400 Meters); and Anthony Brown (8.82, 60m Hurdles and 45-06.00 Triple Jump) all posted wins in their events.

Aside from the individual winners, the Magicians got a variety of athletes who put forth a top-five finish in their events, helping the team take first place.

Jonathan Galbert (60 Meter Dash); Ruzicka (60 Meter Dash); Michael George (200 Meters); Harrison Stewart (200 Meters); Griffen Aannerud (400 Meters); Carson Wistisen (400 Meters); Brayden McLean (400 Meters); Josh Hegstad (800 Meters); Nolan Howey (1600 Meters); Zach Brown (60m Hurdles); Camden Backman (60m Hurdles); Bridger Pettys (Shot Put); Jobe Rystedt (Shot Put); Derrik Arievett (Shot Put); Keaton Reinke (Pole Vault); A. Brown (Long Jump); Z. Brown (Long Jump); Z. Brown (Triple Jump); and John Williams III (Triple Jump) all had a top-five finish in their respective events.

The 4×200 Relay team of Aaron Prestwich, Jonathan Galbert, George, and Speraw finished in second place. The 4×400 Relay team of Wistisen, Bobo, Aannerud, and McLean took second place as well. Following suit of the others, the 4×800 Relay team of George, Galbert, Prestwich, and Manasseh Boakye finished in second.

On the girls’ side, Minot’s score of 220.33 placed the Majettes in first, followed by Williston (120.83), Dickinson (60.83) and Watford City (35).

Faith Brown (7.91, 60 Meter Dash and 26.65, 200 Meters) and Haley Conklin (10.52, 60m Hurdles and 34-11.75, Triple Jump) posted individual wins in multiple events for the Majettes, helping lead the charge to the top spot.

In what was a great showing by the team, the Majettes had many athletes finish in the top five of their individual events.

Maicee Burke (60 Meter Dash); Rachel Nwankwo (60 Meter Dash); Burke (200 Meters); Eve Knutson (200 Meters); Hallie Nash (800 Meters); Maria Goodvin (800 Meters); Sophia Lade (800 Meters); Scout Ulrickson (1600 Meters); Lade (1600 Meters); Mikkail Nehring (60m Hurdles); Maya Aguilar (Shot Put); Kya Kamrowski (Shot Put); Kaiya Chell (Shot Put); Da’nijah Moore (Shot Put); Nwankwo (High Jump); Makayla Whitfield (Long Jump); Ashlyn Nielsen (Long Jump); Nwankwo (Triple Jump); Nielsen (Triple Jump); and Nevaeh Perez-Coleman (Triple Jump) finished in the top five of their events.

Another group that took first place in an event was the 4×200 Relay team of Brown, Burke, Whitfield, and Knutson. The 4×400 Relay team of Emily Matter, Olivia Hanson, Perez-Coleman, and Knutson took third place. The 4×800 Relay team of Mandy Schmidt, Takola Ownspipe, Goodvin, and Nash took second place.

Unless the weather causes a change of plans for the upcoming outdoor meets, the next scheduled meet for Minot High is the Karlgaard meet, which is tentatively set for 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 6.
