Minotauros Weekend Rewind

Squaring off in a home-and-home weekend matchup against in-state rival Bismarck Bobcats, the Minot Minotauros saw red and capitalized on outstanding play to improve their season record to 4-4-0 to tie them with Aberdeen for fourth place in the Central Division.

After dropping the home leg of the two-game series 4-0 on Friday night at the Maysa Arena, the Tauros would gather their composure and ultimately bring home an always crucial victory on the road Saturday night.

Just two minutes into the contest, the Tauros would grab a 1-0 lead courtesy of assists by Max Martin and Nick O’Hanisain to Colby Joseph to set a scoring-heavy tone for the evening.

After a back-and-forth battle defined much of the remainder of the first period and much of the second, the Tauros once again found a hole in the Bismarck defense when Hunter Longhi capitalized on the Tauros’ power play and converted the second assist of the night for O’Hanisain into a beautiful goal to stretch the lead to 2-0.

Showing more than just their scoring prowess, the Tauros put their astute defensive play into action throughout the entirety of the contest, holding the Bobcats scoreless through two periods of hockey action.

Refusing to fold, the Bobcats would break the shutout and shrink the Tauros’ lead to one score on a goal at 4:13 in the third period.

Unfortunately for Bismarck, that would be the first and last goal of the game for the Bobcats.

However, the Tauros weren’t through lighting the lamp, as Max Martin and Tory Lund would each tally a goal in the final 15 minutes of play to bring the final score to 4-1 for a Tauros’ road victory.

Playing a large part in the Tauros success thus far has been goalie Lawton Zacher, who holds a 4-1-0 record in starts this season and a .931 save percentage.

The Minotauros will welcome the St. Cloud Norsemen to the Maysa Arena on Sunday for a 6:05 puck drop.

As a reminder to fans looking to attend Sunday’s game, the Circle Sanitation “Fill the Bin” coat drive is still underway, and all are encouraged to donate a new or gently-used winter clothing item that will go to those in need in the Minot area.
