Four Magi players named WDA All-Conference

Two honorable mentions

On Monday, football’s Class AA WDA All-Conference team was announced. The selections were based on voting done by head coaches.

Four Minot Magicians were among the All-Conference players. Ethan Pankow, a senior defensive back, Kaydn Turnbow, a junior two-way lineman, Caleb Spitzer, senior two-way lineman and Jonas Bubach, a senior fullback/linebacker qualified for the prestigious honor.

Meanwhile, Minot senior linebacker Layton Ludwig and senior defensive back Tyler Budeau were named as honorable mentions. Bismarck Century had the most All-Conference selections with eight, followed by Mandan (6) and Legacy (5). As a team, the Magi finished the year with an overall mark of 2-8 and fell to West Fargo Sheyenne in the state quarterfinals.

Other special awards announced included the Coach of the Year, which was given to Ron Wingenbach, and the Senior Athlete of the Year, which went to Lucas Schweigert, both of Century. Mandan junior Karsyn Jablonski won Return Specialist of the Year and Bismarck senior Ethan Stotz was named Punter of the Year. Senior Paul Osmond of Century came away with Kicker of the Year recognition.
