Tennis: Minot falls to Mandan 7-2 on the road

In a clash of unbeaten teams, the Minot Majettes (12-1) were unable to keep their perfect record intact against Mandan on Tuesday, losing to the Braves 7-2.

In singles play, junior Eden Olson was Minot’s only winner of the day in the No. 2 position as she beat freshman Sophia Felderman in straight sets 6-0, 6-2. In doubles, Minot’s top team of Olson and Sofia Egge were 6-4, 6-3 winners over Elizabeth Felderman and Kate Kesler. Aside from those two victories, the Magi did not win another set in either singles or doubles competition.

Afterwards, Minot head coach Scott DeLorme credited Mandan’s depth and experience as the deciding factors in the meet.

“Mandan is loaded with seniors throughout their lineup and their experience showed in many areas,” DeLorme told The Minot Daily News. “It also gave us a chance to see some great competition which will only help us the last three weeks of the season.”

Minot will try to rebound from its first loss of the season in its next road meet against Jamestown on Thursday. Start time for that match is scheduled for 4:15 p.m.
