MHS takes second at Bismarck Invite

On Monday, the Minot boys golf team put their three-event winning streak on the line at the Bismarck Invite.

With a team score of 323, the Magi placed two strokes behind Bismarck Century who paced the nine-team field with a score of 321. In third, Bismarck High recorded 343, followed by St. Mary’s at 344. Jamestown rounded out the top five at 355.

Individually for Minot, it was Gavin Argent who led the club as he shot 74 on the day. Meanwhile, Brock Jones was second best on the team with 81. Henry Langhans (84), Kasen Rostad (84), Jake Theis (85) and Peyton Bartsch (89) rounded out the rest of the scoring for Minot.

Meanwhile, Magi head coach Shane Hannegrefs credits his team’s ability to limit mistakes as being a key factor in a string of successful outings for the Magicians.

“If you look at our previous three tournaments, we were able to get continuations from all the golfers in our varsity lineup,” Hannegrefs told The Minot Daily News. “Gavin has been consistent each tournament with three out of the other five golfers coming through with one of the best rounds of the season to add strength to our lineup. Last week, we had several kids post a season low score.”

Next up for Minot, they plan to compete on Monday, May 24 at The Links of North Dakota in their final meet before regionals. Start time for that meet is slated for 10 a.m.
