Minot concludes regular season with mult-dual victory
In the final home competition of the season, the Minot boys swim and dive team won both sets of a triple dual against Williston and Dickinson. Minot topped Williston 136-50, and also defeated Dickinson 135-51, ending the regular season without a loss.
The Magi started off the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay. Dominic Yoder, Josh Boen, Peyton Bartsch and Grant Schaeffer combined to swim a first-place time of 1:39.81. Yoder, Boen, Schaeffer and sophomore Alex King were also winners in the 400-yard freestyle relay, clocking in at 3:18.15.
Then in the 200-yard individual medley, Yoder gave his club its second win of the day as he outlasted highly accomplished Williston sophomore Kolden Kringen with a second-team all-state time of 2:00.71. It would be the first of two wins on the day for Yoder who claimed his second victory in the 100-yard backstroke with a first-place all-state time of 54.55 seconds.
In the 50-yard freestyle, it was King who paced the field with a time of 22.58 seconds. Meanwhile, Minot teammates Schaeffer and Jaxon Reinke took second and third with respective times of 23.08 and 23.96. King added to Minot’s success as he clocked in with a top time of 5:05.56 in the 500-yard free.
A trio of Magicians also grabbed the top three spots in both the 100-yard butterfly and the 100-yard free. While Reinke (57.28), Bartsch (57.36) and Boen (58.81) earned the best three times in the butterfly, it was Schaeffer (49.48), Alex Prestwich (53.73), Tristen Leys (55.17) who represented the Magi as the top swimmers in the freestyle event. In the process, Schaeffer’s time qualified as a second-team all-state finish.
Then in the final individual race of the day, Oliver Roongin set the standard in the 100-yard breaststroke, clocking in at 1:03.79. Up next for the Magi, they plan to compete in regional competition starting on Saturday, Feb. 27 in Bismarck.
