Beavers add freshman transfer from Division III Oswego State

The Minot State men’s hockey team will have a new skater on its roster when the team returns to action after the holiday break, adding freshman forward Sean Williams, a transfer from Division III Oswego State (N.Y.), the team announced Friday, Dec. 12.

The Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, native appeared in just two games with the Lakers this season, registering three shots. Williams originally committed to play Division I hockey at Robert Morris (Penn.) before electing to go to Oswego State instead. He was the only freshman forward listed on the roster.

“Sean is a young man that we are incredibly fortunate to have joining our program after the Christmas break,” MSU coach Wyatt Waselenchuk said in a press release. “He’s a big body that skates extremely well and shoots the puck like a pro. He is a proven goal-scorer at every level he has played at, and it will be a big boost for our offense to insert him into our lineup.”

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound transfer becomes the 13th forward on Minot State’s roster and second freshman, joining Jaxon Grosdidier, who has already made an instant impact with the Beavers, scoring four goals and registering two assists.

Williams played three years in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) for RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg, appearing in 64 games and registering 48 points (24 goals, 24 assists). From there, Williams spent most of his junior hockey career in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League playing for the Winnipeg Blues and Waywayseecappo Wolverines. In his final year with the Wolverines in the 2023-24 season, Williams scored 29 goals and added 23 assists for 52 points. He split his final year of junior hockey with the Elmira Aviators of the North American Hockey League and the Niverville Nighthawks of the MJHL, combining for 45 points on 17 goals and 28 assists.

“I am very excited to be joining a winning program,” Williams said in a press release. “They’ve shown they can win year after year. I couldn’t be more happy to join a program that wins and moves players on to the next level.”

Williams will suit up for the Beavers for the first time when they return to the ice on Jan. 9 when they face in-state rival U-Mary at All-Seasons Arena at 7:30 p.m.

Starting at $2.99/week.
