Lakers shut out Aggies, 3-0

Ciara Parizek/MDN Krysta Berard makes the spike and the ball sails over the heads of Velva blockers on Monday evening in Des Lacs.

Des Lacs-Burlington shut out Velva with a final score of 3-0, even with one of their best hitters getting hurt toward the beginning of the second set. The set scores were 25-14, 25-18 and 25-12.

DLB head coach Cassidy Peterson had nothing but great things to say about her team. “I’m really proud of the girls, to stay focused after one of their teammates goes down,” she said. “I know that can be hard but I was really proud of the girls to stay focused and push through that.”

Krysta Berard, an outside hitter from DLB, was also pleased with how the game turned out in light of losing one of their best hitters.

“I think (the game) went pretty well. We pulled that off really well, bringing in someone new who’s never played that position before,” Berard explained.

Addyson Hughes led the team with 27 assists and four aces. Zoey Reed brought in 14 kills and Ava Wille finished with eight digs.

The Lakers’ next game will be against the Glenburn Panthers at 7 p.m. on Friday in Des Lacs.

As of Monday night, Velva’s next step is playing in the regional tournament from Nov. 10-14 in the Minot Municipal Auditorium.
