Magi tennis captures 9-0 victory over Mandan

MANDAN — The Minot High School boys tennis team handled its business during Thursday afternoon’s match against Mandan. The Magicians (8-2, 8-2 WDA) earned a 9-0 sweep over the Braves (4-6, 4-6 WDA).

The Magi won each of their matches — both singles and doubles — in straight sets. Minot junior Colby Opp defeated Mandan’s Trevor Elijah in a 6-0, 6-0 contest.

“They are starting to realize what building points can do,” MHS head coach Scott DeLorme said. “They are seeing success in their singles.”

Minot continued to roll in doubles play. Minot’s No. 1 team of junior Zach Diehl and senior Ridge Jaeger seized a 6-0, 6-0 win over Karter Hatzenbuhler and Jayden Arenz. Senior Zach Renaud and sophomore Hunter Rice earned a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Brady Helbling and Elijah at No. 2, while eighth-grader Aidan Diehl and Colby Opp secured their 6-3, 6-4 win over Keaton Pritchett and Braden Ressler.

“When we communicate, we are so much better,” DeLorme said. “They did a nice job of it tonight. Hopefully, it’s something we can build on.”

Next, Minot will play at 4 p.m. next Tuesday in Williston.
