Minot Metros win seesaw affair against Bismarck Senators

JAMESTOWN — Multiple lead changes and a close game throughout, precisely how a No. 4 versus No. 5 matchup should play out.

The No. 4 Minot Metros moved on with a 10-8 victory over No. 5 Bismarck Senators in the first round of the Class A West Region baseball tournament held Tuesday afternoon in Jamestown.

Minot scored first on an RBI single by Jayden Sperow in the bottom of the second inning. The Senators fought back with three runs in the third inning and added two more in the fourth.

Trailing 5-2, the Metros scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth to regain the lead. Aiden Stewart, Eli Nissen and Jonas Bubach came through with RBI hits.

Three more runs in the fifth inning gave Minot a 9-5 cushion to work with, but the Senators answered quickly with another three-spot in the top of the sixth inning to claw back within a run.

A leadoff triple by Bubach opened the bottom of the sixth. He came around to score on an RBI single by Tyler Johnson.

Bubach replaced starting pitcher Tyler Buchanan in the sixth inning and recorded four outs. Leyton Ludwig then stepped in and picked up the final two outs to wrap up the 10-8 tournament victory.

Sperow went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Johnson and Bubach also finished with two hits apiece. The Metros finished with 12 hits compared to the Senators’ seven hits.

Minot advances to the next round, staying on the winner’s side of the West Region Tournament bracket, to face No. 1-seeded Bismarck Representatives at 5 p.m. this evening in Jamestown.
