MSU men’s hockey defeats U-Mary 4-0 in chippy affair

MANDAN — After the Minot State and the University of Mary men’s hockey teams combined for 79 penalty minutes on 28 infractions, the Beavers earned a 4-0 victory.

Four players were disqualified for fighting in the third period. Joshua Colleaux and Jordan Robertson were ejected for fighting before Philip Silveria and Dylan Johnson followed suit.

In the middle of the pandemonium, the Beavers scored in every period. Two goals came in the first frame, while the Beavers found the back of the net once in each of the subsequent periods.

Kent Walchuck and Adam Wowryk scored two goals in the first 1:01. In the second period, Wowryk sniped a power-play goal after 9:11 elapsed.

The Beavers owned an ample supply of goals, but Johl Swedlo tacked on an insurance goal during a third-period power play. All of the Beavers’ goals were assisted.

MSU racked up 36 shots on goal, while U-Mary mustered 31. The Beavers converted on two of their nine power-play opportunities, while the Marauders did not capitalize on any of their four chances.

MSU will host Jamestown at 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13.
