CROOKSTON, Minn. — Minot State junior forward Sofia Lewis broke the Minot State all-time goals and points school record in a 3-2 loss Tuesday against formerly winless Minnesota Crookston.

Lewis, a product of Minot High School, scored both of the Beavers’ goals to surpass Ninfa “Ninja” Ramirez (2014-16) in career goals (35) and points (84) at Minot State.

Already trailing 2-0 after goals by Latafale Niumeitolu and Maggie Peterson, Lewis netted her 34th career goal in the 34th minute to pull the Beavers within one going into halftime.

Vanessa Shelton restored Crookston’s two-goal cushion six minutes into the second half.

Stealing the ball off a defender five minutes later, Lewis broke two school records with her second goal of the game on a low shot across Crookston goalkeeper Athena DiMarioDone.

The Beavers (3-14, 3-11 NSIC) pushed for an equalizer, but it never came.

MSU heavily outshot Crookston 34-10 (18-5 shots on target). Yet, the Golden Eagles (1-14, 1-13 NSIC) still managed to find three goals for the first time since their 2018 season opener.

DiMarioDone made 16 saves for the Golden Eagles.

The Beavers will end their season at 3:30 p.m. Friday against rival U-Mary in Bismarck.

No. 7 Northern State topples Minot State, 3-0

ABERDEEN, S.D. — The Minot State volleyball team was limited to a .018 attack percentage (second-lowest of the season) in a 3-0 road defeat Tuesday against No. 7-ranked Northern State.

The Wolves (21-3, 14-2 NSIC) won by lopsided set scores of 25-13, 25-12, 25-12.

The Beavers’ momentum of winning two straight matches for the first time all season wasn’t enough to slow down an NSIC powerhouse like Northern State. MSU dropped to 3-22 overall (2-14 NSIC) on the season.

The Beavers only managed 20 total kills with a bulk of them coming from Shelby Spuller (six), Hayley Swain (five) and Kayla Verity (five). Whereas, Northern State had a trio of players reach double-digits in kills: Jenna Reiff (13), Laura Snyder (13) and Sally Gaul (10).

Mackenzie Froehlich had 18 assists and Karli Koza provided 15 digs for the Beavers.

MSU is back at home this weekend with matches against No. 13 Wayne State at 6 p.m. Friday and Augustana at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Six officials inducted into the NDOA Hall of Fame

VALLEY CITY – The North Dakota Officials Association (NDOA) announces the 50th induction class to the 2019-20 Hall of Fame as determined at its recent Board of Directors meeting. The inductees will be recognized and receive awards at various North Dakota High School Activities Association (NDHSAA) events during the 2019-20 school year. Inductees are:

Scott Collins – Minot

Scott Collins began officiating in the state of North Dakota in 1987. He officiated in the sports of baseball (19 seasons), basketball (15 seasons) and football (12 seasons). During his time as an official, Collins worked seven NDHSAA baseball state tournaments, 24 region baseball tournaments, one NDHSAA Class B region basketball tournament and 12 District 12 basketball tournaments. Collins also officiated 10 legion baseball tournaments, seven legion baseball regional tournaments, two Babe Ruth World Series Baseball Tournaments and 10 NAIA Conference and Regional Tournaments.

Collins said being an official allowed him to stay involved with high school and college athletics. He earned a reputation as one of the top baseball officials in the West Region for his knowledge of the game, poise, management skills and all-around baseball savvy. Collins is engaged to Chelsey Nichols and has three children Paige (25), Makenzi (21) and Tyler (14). He resides in Minot and works for the Minot Park District as the Director of Recreation/Auditorium.

Stuart Dolan – Ray

Stuart Dolan began officiating volleyball in 1988 and is still active today. Dolan has officiated 61 total district, region and state tournaments in his time as an official in North Dakota including 12 NDHSAA State Volleyball Tournaments. His service as an official in the northwest part of the state has also included the sport of basketball spanning a total of 36 years. In 2007-08, Dolan was named Volleyball Official of the Year in North Dakota. Dolan is a member of the Bakken Officials Association and has served as its president since 2015. In addition to officiating, Dolan also has been a longtime Volleyball Officials Workshop Supervisor in Williston while actively recruiting and training officials during his distinguished career.

Dolan owns and operates Dolan Construction Company. He serves as a volunteer EMT and firefighter in addition to being involved with his church. He is married to Michelle and has two daughters Paige (a registered official) and Maari Dolan (a past official).

Rod Heisler – Devils Lake

Rod Heisler has been officiating volleyball in North Dakota for 24 years and is still active today. Heisler has officiated six NDHSAA State Volleyball Tournaments, 16 region tournaments and also many district tournaments in the Lake Region area of North Dakota. Heisler has served as a Volleyball Officials Workshop Supervisor in Devils Lake for many years. He has advanced the profession of officiating in the state by actively recruiting and training young officials. He is respected by his peers for his extensive knowledge of the volleyball rules book and is always eager to help fellow officials. Heisler was Professional Association of Volleyball Officials (PAVO) college certified for 14 years working NCC, Northern Sun, NAIA and Junior College volleyball in the three-state area.

Heisler is retired from the Adjutant general department N.D. He has been married to his wife Connie for 42 years has three children: son Shane (Kristy) Heisler kids Eastin, Maddox and Trace, son Christopher (Lindsay) Heisler kids Savannah, Sean and Tatum and daughter Kyla (John) Maritato kids Phillip, Isabelle and Everleigh.

Tim Kilgore – Grand Forks

Tim Kilgore has been officiating 38 years in the sports of wrestling and softball. He began his officiating career in 1972 and is still an active wrestling official. Kilgore has worked 20 NDHSAA State Wrestling Tournaments, 29 Individual Regional Wrestling Tournaments and 14 Team Dual Regional Wrestling Tournaments. Kilgore has been a leader and pioneer in establishing developmental programs designed to instruct and mentor new officials in the sport of wrestling. In addition to wrestling, Kilgore also officiated ASA slow-pitch softball for 32 years, ASA fastpitch softball for 12 years and NDHSAA fastpitch softball for five years. Kilgore has umpired in four National Softball Tournaments.

Kilgore has served as a Wrestling Rules Clinic Workshop Supervisor since 2014 in Grand Forks and also served as president of the Grand Forks Softball Umpires Association for 12 years. Kilgore resides in Grand Forks and works as an Orthotic Technician at Altru Health Systems. Kilgore wishes to extend his most sincere gratitude to the entire wrestling community and the NDOA for bestowing this honor upon him.

Greg Selbo – Fargo

Greg Selbo began officiating the sport of swimming and diving in 1993 and worked 23 seasons before retiring in 2016. During his time as a swimming official, Selbo worked a total of 41 NDHSAA state and conference swimming meets. Greg served a four-year term on the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Swimming/Diving Rules Committee, representing Section 5. He also served two three-year terms on the N.D. State Officials Board representing the sport of swimming. Greg received the North Dakota High School Coaches Association (NDHSCA) Award of Merit for his involvement in and contributions to the sport of swimming and diving in North Dakota.

Prior to his work as an official in high school swimming, Greg served as a USA Swimming Official beginning in 1986. He also served on the North Dakota’s governing body for club swimming in North Dakota and represented North Dakota on various national committees regarding rules. Greg is married to Pam and they have three children: Gabe (Minneapolis, Minn.), Britt (Fargo, N.D.) and Brock (Fargo, N.D.). Selbo is an attorney with the Nilles Law Firm in Fargo.

Kevin Sundre – Petersburg

Kevin Sundre has been officiating basketball in North Dakota for 36 years and is still active. During his time as an official Sundre has been selected for his demonstrated abilities to work 60 district tournaments, 45 region tournaments and 18 state tournaments, 13 NDHSAA Class B Boys State Tournaments and five NDHSAA Class B Girls Basketball State Tournaments.

Sundre has served as a Basketball Officials Workshop Supervisor in Devils Lake for many years and has organized several officials day camps to help inexperienced officials to become more fundamentally sound. Sundre also has advanced the profession of officiating in the state by actively recruiting and mentoring young officials. Sundre is married to Lynae and they have two children: Ashley, married to son-in-law Matthew with two children (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Zac, engaged to Shelby (Minneapolis, Minn.).

The NDOA has inducted 148 officials into its Hall of Fame since the inaugural class in 1965. Plaques commemorating all Hall of Fame members are housed in the North Dakota Athletic Hall of Fame, located inside the Jamestown Civic Center
