Carignan named NSIC Special Teams Player of the Week
BURNSVILLE, Minn. — National recognition continues for Minot State football kick returner Cory Carignan. The true freshman was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Special Teams Player of the Week by the league office on Monday.
Carignan went off for 192 total kick return yards in Week 1 against No. 14 Minnesota Duluth, including a memorable kick return touchdown that went viral on social media and made an appearance as the No. 1 play on SportsCenter.
“I have been coaching long enough that there wasn’t social media when I first started,” MSU head coach Mike Aldrich said in his weekly press conference on Monday. “This is something new, that something can blow up like that and have as much of an actual positive impact for us in terms of people seeing us across the country, regardless of it being in a loss. We made an exciting play and got some notoriety.”
