Egge becomes all-time win leader for Majettes tennis during two-dual split

FARGO – Senior Raquel Egge etched her name into the record books on Friday during the Majettes’ pair of duals against Fargo North and Fargo Davies, becoming the all-time leader in wins for the Minot High School girls tennis program.

The recent Concordia College commit wasted no time breaking the record as she defeated Fargo North’s Lauren Harr in singles (6-0, 6-2) to start the outing. The victory marked win No. 136, surpassing Shannon Runyan’s total from 1993.

Freshman Eden Olson followed suit with a win over Julia Morris (6-2, 6-2) to give Minot a 2-1 lead entering doubles, and the Majettes claimed the first two doubles matches to secure the 4-1 dual victory.

“Against North, we got a combination of strong singles and doubles play on our way to a 4-1 win,” MHS head coach Scott DeLorme said. “Raquel Egge and Eden Olson continued their strong play with straight set wins and our doubles combinations were new, but both teams communicated well and played smart, aggressive tennis.”

But it was Fargo Davies who emerged victorious in Minot’s second dual of the day, claiming a 3-2 win. With only three singles matches played, sophomore Sydney Fettig earned the lone victory for the Majettes with a 7-6(4), 6-2 win over Davies’ Ishika Gupta.

“Sydney (Fettig) has shown those glimpses often in practice,” DeLorme said. “And today (she) carried it into a match which will be a big boost to her confidence going forward.”

Egge and fellow senior Joelle Fettig managed to earn a doubles win over Davies’ duo of Lily Andrews and Marissa Burian (6-2, 6-3), but the Eagles halted the comeback soon afterwards. Davies’ Katilynn Lee and Laura Kendlinger joined forces to defeat freshman Sofia Egge and sophomore Morgan Wheeler (6-2, 3-6, 12-10) and give the Eagles a 3-2 dual win.

Next up for the Majettes (10-4, 5-1 West Region) is a road dual against West Fargo Sheyenne today at 9 a.m. as part of the East/West Classic tournament.

Majettes softball drops both games to West Fargo

FARGO – The Minot High School softball team (11-10, 7-6 West Region) came up empty on Friday in its doubleheader against West Fargo, as the Packers secured a 10-0 win and a 10-3 win.

West Fargo brought the heat in the opening game and racked up five runs in the bottom of the first inning. Packers pitcher Courtney Boll then kept the Majettes’ bats silent, allowing just three hits to lead her team to a 10-0 victory.

Trailing 2-0 in the top of Game 2’s third inning, senior Jaycie Rostad got Minot on the board with an RBI single that brought junior Jailee Britt home. But West Fargo’s offense kept rolling, tallying eight more runs the rest of the way en route to a 10-3 win.

Junior Landry Maragos finished with two RBIs on 1-for-3 hitting in the losing effort, while Rostad recorded one RBI on 3-for-4 hitting.
