June 20, 1960-Nov. 12, 2025

Minot

Arlyn Lane Borud, 65, of Minot, died Wednesday, November 12, 2025, in his home, surrounded by his loving family. Arlyn was born in Williston, ND on June 20, 1960, to parents Floyd and Cynthia (Gronseth) Borud. He was raised and educated in Minot, graduating from Minot High School in 1978. Following high school, Arlyn attended Minot State University for a brief period and then finished his education for Power Plant Technician at Bismarck Junior College in 1981.

After college, Arlyn moved to Van Nuys, California, where he worked for ITT-Gilfillan in the mail room. After a few years in California, Arlyn decided to return home to Minot, and began working for Farstad Oil in the oil drum reconstruction department. After about two years, he transitioned to a position as a roofing technician with Greenberg (a Tecta America company). Arlyn continued doing roofing for the rest of his working years, retiring after the 2011 flood in Minot. Arlyn married Una Vivian Boyce in 1995. From this union, Arlyn gained his beautiful bonus daughter, Jamie. His son, Colton, who was his pride and joy, arrived soon thereafter. Arlyn often referred to him as his “Little Buck!” They would later divorce but maintained a wonderful friendship throughout the years.

In his free time, Arlyn enjoyed the outdoors. He often went on camping trips to lake Sakakawea, where he would hunt and fish. He was a huge dog lover having several dogs throughout his life. Arlyn had a lifelong passion for playing the guitar. His father, Floyd, was in many bands and passed along his musical influences to Arlyn and the rest of the family. Arlyn enjoyed playing along with his relatives at family events and holiday gatherings. He will be remembered most for being stubborn, but having a heart of gold.

Arlyn is survived by: his son, Colton Borud, and bonus daughter, Jamie Williams; grandchildren, Angelina, Holden, and Tucker Williams; brother, Kirk (Annette) Borud and their families, Erin (Jacob) Renne, Scarlet and Silas; Derek A. (Whitney) Borud, Bristol and Vaida; Emily (Justin) Ternes, Blair and Burke; sister, Vicki (Marty) Liesener and their families, Alexius (Cody) Knudson, Brinley, McKenna, and Reed; Adrian (Jacob) Odermann, Wyatt, Henry, Emersyn, and Hayes; Adam Liesener; and Alaury (Donald) Christopherson, Lane and Lena; along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Arlyn was preceded in death by his parents.

A public gathering will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at 2:15 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, Minot, in the church Parish Center. Per Arlyn’s wish, a private funeral will take place. A recording of the service will be available on the Thomas Family Funeral Home website in the coming week.
