Ida Lauinger, 94, Minot, formerly of Karlsruhe, ND, passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 in a Minot hospital.

Ida Merck was born on April 24, 1931, one of fifteen children born to Jacob and Regina (Boehm) Merck in Karlsruhe, ND. She was raised and educated in the Karlsruhe area.

On October 9, 1951, Ida was united in marriage to Anton “Tony” G. Lauinger. They made their home on the family farm in Karlsruhe for a couple of years and then moved into town in Karlsruhe.

In 1966, they had the opportunity to return to the family farm, following the retirement of his parents. Together they raised their two children Verla and John. In addition, Ida assisted Tony with his cattle ranching.

In 2011, Ida and Tony retired and moved into Somerset Court. Tony died November 19, 2017. Ida remained at Somerset, where she made many friends and was one of the longest-term residents.

Ida loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was an active member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Karlsruhe.

She was also an excellent baker, cook, enjoyed sewing and quilting. Ida was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend and will be deeply missed by all that knew her.

Ida is survived by: children: Verla (Wayne) Walter, John (Shelly) Lauinger; Grandchildren: Toni (Justin) Mocko, Scott (Tricia) Walter, Lance (Annie) Lauinger, Cole (Beth) Lauinger; great-grandchildren: Izabella and Zoey Mocko, Vayda and Blake Walter, Aftyn and Kendalyn Lauinger; siblings: Agnes Traiser, Jeanne Fiest, and Angela Klein. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Ida was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 66 years Anton, and 11 siblings.

Visitation: Tuesday, July 8, 2025, from 5 until 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Vigil Prayer Service: Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at 7 p.m. in Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot

Mass of Christian Burial: Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Karlsruhe, ND

Burial: Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery, Karlsruhe, ND

Memorials may be given in Ida’s name to Somerset Court.
