Phil J. Stach

Minot
Phil J. Stach, Minot, died unexpectedly Sunday June 8, 2025 in his home from complications of asthma.
Phil was born January 30, 1954 in Minot, ND to Philip Sr. and Shirley (Zuzulin) Stach Detlaff. He was a 1972 graduate of Bishop Ryan High School and attended Minot State University for a short period of time.
Phil was a hard-working and dedicated person who gave everything not only to his family but to his employers and customers. He started his 50 years of employment by managing Big A’s Auto Parts followed by time at Farstad Oil, and Coke. Phil ended his career at the place where people really got to know and trust him – Fisher Motors, now Ryan GMC. His dedication was shown by being the first to arrive and the last to leave. He was known to greet everyone with a smile and provide excellent customer service during his many wonderful years of employment. He retired from Ryan GMC in October 2023 having gained friendships and fond memories throughout the years in excitement and anticipation to spend more time with his loving family, especially his grandchildren.
Phil was united in marriage to Annette Stanley on June 24, 1983 at Little Flower Catholic Church in Minot. They were blessed with three wonderful children, followed by four grandchildren and two bonus grandchildren, all of which he cherished and spoiled. He loved his family deeply. One way it was shown was by gestures, no matter how big or small, for his kids. Phil spent countless hours and drove thousands of miles to watch his kids’ activities. He also loved to spend time with his grandchildren, which included watching and supporting them in their activities. He never missed sending a good morning text to his children, “Have a great day, love dad”.
Phil was a dedicated member of The Pursuit Church in Minot. When not spending time with his family, his hobbies included volunteering at the church, walking his dogs, and he had been an avid runner in his younger days. He loved to be outside, whether it be mowing the lawn, or planting and tending to his flowers. Phil’s attention to detail was evident in the care he provided to his family and, of course, the impeccable state of his yard. While Phil’s days were full, he made it a priority to visit his mother every day, showing further his love and dedication to family.
To know Phil was an honor and to be loved by him was a blessing. Phil was an undeniably genuine human being who possessed the most contagious, warm, selfless, and caring traits which most of us can only hope to possess.
Phil is survived by his loving wife of nearly 42 years, Annette, Minot; children Alicia (Andrew) Crosby, Minot, Emmalee (Luke) Sabol, Fargo, ND and Jake (Molly Frueh) Stach, Minot; grandchildren Abel, Alayna and Anders Crosby, Paxton and Brynlee Frueh, and Emryn Sabol; mother Shirley Stach Detlaff, Minot; siblings Nancy (Steve) Block and Karen (Rich) Berg, both of Minot; brothers-in-law Jeff Yakle, Stilwell, KS and David (Melissa) Stanley, Minot; sister-in-law Michelle (William Jr.) Bliven, Minot; numerous nieces and nephews and his beloved cocker spaniel Hattie.
Phil was preceded in death by his father Philip Sr., his sisters Susan Stach and Mary Beth Yakle, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Buck and Fran Stanley and his beloved cocker spaniels Tawny and Bella.
