Paul Lamont Garcia

Aug. 23, 1963-June 23, 2025

Garrison

Paul Lamont Garcia, 61, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Monday at the CHI Garrison Memorial Hospital.

Paul was born August 23, 1963, to Leona (Kurtz) and Rogerio (Rocky) Garcia in Alice Texas.

Paul was also born a twin, with John being just minutes older than Paul. Paul and John were the 3rd set of twins in his family.

The family moved to North Dakota in 1969. Paul attended school in Garrison and obtained his GED at Ogden, Utah Job Corp.

Paul was very involved in athletics during his high school career and excelled in many sports. Wrestling being one he was most proud of as he held the record for an 8 second pin in his weight class.

Paul knew the value of hard work and had various jobs throughout his life. He worked at the Garrison Bakery, the Garrison Cafe, for Mark Anderson at Falkirk, Johnson’s Red Owl/Jack and Jill and in 1994 he moved into his role at BHG.

He was a valuable employee often managing many different departments and newspaper routes. He was a friendly face at the front desk and a reliable source of knowledge for most anything at the BHG.

Paul also served on many boards and councils.

He was a past president and board member of the Garrison Park Board for 26 years, a devout member of the Knights of Columbus, a eucharistic minister, and served on the church council at St. Nicholas Catholic Church.

He had many loves but none as great as the love he had for his wife Patti. He and Patti (Kastner) started dating June 6, 1984, and were united in marriage on October 25th, 1986 at St. Nicholas in Garrison.

Together they shared a life filled with much laughter and so many loved ones. They enjoyed many activities together; coed volleyball, trips to the casino, attending sporting events of their many nieces and nephews, cards with Phyllis, softball, and watching his beloved Minnesota Vikings and Twins. Together they made their house a home where all were welcomed and loved unconditionally.

In 2008, Paul was diagnosed with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (Inherited COPD). A disease that would ultimately cut his life short but something that never dulled his spirit.

Paul never complained despite his many limitations, and he never wanted to be a burden to anyone. He was blessed to have many great doctors, nurses and support who helped him through some of the toughest days. Paul showed us the meaning of strength, compassion, kindness, resilience, courage, and love.

He is survived and loved so deeply by his wife Patti; siblings, Deb (Dan) Charles, Sandra Garcia, Michael (Terry) Garcia, Melissa Martidis, and Marty; step-mom Janie Garcia; in-laws Teresa Garcia, Rosario Garcia, Sandra Kastner, Jim (Tami) Kastner, Bob (Colleen) Kastner, Paul (Donna) Kastner, Kelly Kastner, Tim (Shirelle) Kastner, Carolyn Brewster, Doug Iglehart, Rhonda (Stuart) Kragh, and many loved and adored nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Leona and Rogerio; brothers, Daniel, Robert, Samuel and his twin John; sister, Helen Martin; nephews, Cameron Martin and Shawn Burnette; mother-in-law Phyllis Kasnter and father-in- law Emil Kastner; brother-in-laws, Galen Kastner, Gary Kastner, Don Brewster, Mario Montez, and Carl Martin; sister-in-law, Linda Iglehart.

Funeral Service will be held at 11 A.M. on Friday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Garrison. Burial to follow at St. Nicholas Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 P.M. on Thursday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Garrison with a Rosary starting at 7 P.M.
