Mitchell R. Kostek, 45, Burlington, ND, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2024, in his home with his loving family at his side, following an 8 year battle with ALS.

Mitchell Ray Kostek was born on January 3, 1979, a son of Arlan and Sherrald (Nygaard) Kostek in Crosby, ND. He was raised and educated in the Minot area, graduating from Minot High School in 1997.

Following graduation. Mitchell enlisted into the United States Navy. He served as a Sonar Technician on the Destroyer USS Mahan. While serving he switched to learning linguistics where he learned Arabic and Persian Farsi at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey from 2001-2005. He was honorably discharged in 2005.

On June 16, 2001, Mitchell was united in marriage to Jill Schrader in Minot, ND. Following his discharge, the family lived in Bismarck, ND, where Mitchell worked for Coca-Cola and later became a tobacco sales rep for Grizzley. In 2007, they welcomed a daughter Nadja Belle and in 2008 son Nikolai Alan. In 2011, the family moved to Minot, where Mitchell worked as a supervisor for DXP Enterprises. In 2016, Mitchell was diagnosed with ALS. He was able to remain home until his passing.

Mitchell enjoyed playing softball, math and enjoyed quantum mechanics. He enjoyed working on their hobby farm and was always known to be a hard worker. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend who will be missed by all that knew him.

Mitchell was a member of the USS Mahan Plankowners, Paralyzed Veterans of American and the ALS Association.

Mitchell is survived by:

Wife of 23 years, Jill; children Nadja and Nikolai; Parents: Arlan and Sherrald Kostek; brother Ward (Melinda) Kostek; sisters: April (Thomas) Warman, Anita Kostek; mother-in-law: Pam Schrader; sisters-in-law; Jennifer Schrader; Jamie (Dave) Vetter; several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.

Mitchell was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents John (Ruth) Nygaard, paternal grandparents Andrew (Alida) Kostek, two nephews Jason and Joel Kostek, and his father-in-law Alan Schrader.

Visitation: Tuesday, June 18, 2024, 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Funeral Service: Wednesday, June 19, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at Our Redeemers Lutheran Church, Minot.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
