Richard Feist, 89, Minot, ND, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2024, in a Velva care facility.
Richard Frank Feist was born April 3, 1934, the son of Frank and Catherine (Senger) Feist, in Karlsruhe, ND. He was raised and educated in Karlsruhe, graduating from Karlsruhe High School.
He married Irene Gefroh on August 17, 1953, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Karlsruhe. They were blessed with eight children, Michael, Myron, Mark, Maynard, Marvin, Marilyn, Marlene, and Mary. They made their home in Karlsruhe until 1957, when they moved to Minot. After moving to Minot, Richard and his brothers acquired Minot Sash & Door, Inc, where he served at President for 50 years. Richard and Minot Sash & Door, Inc. were awarded the 2007 Regional Family-Owned Business of the Year by Region 8 Small Business Administration. Irene passed away on December 27, 2004.
Richard had a strong sense of community. He was deeply involved in both the civic community and his faith community. He served on the Foundation Board for Bishop Ryan High School and on the Board of Regents. He was an active member of Knights of Columbus, Elks, Eagles, and Minot Builders Association. He served on the St. Joseph’s Hospital Board for 20 years, serving as Board President. While on the board he worked to achieve 24-hour ER service and an ambulance service for the community, called Minot Community Ambulance. He was on the Sacred Heart Foundation Board in Denver. This was the foundation of the Sisters of St. Francis who ran St. Joseph’s Hospital in Minot along with additional hospitals and nursing homes. He was a charter member of the St. Joseph’s Community Foundation and was Chairman for two terms. This foundation was formed after the sale of St. Joseph’s Hospital. Money is awarded on a yearly basis to programs in and around the Minot area. Over 13.8 million has been given back to the area communities since its inception in 1998. He was a charter member of Little Flower Catholic Church, serving as chairman of the parish council under Father Andrews.
He enjoyed reading historical books and he had a love for the outdoors. He enjoyed ranch activities, raising elk, and fishing. Family was incredibly important to him. He was proud of his kids and in-laws for their work ethic and their commitment to family. His family meant the world to him. The times he spent with his family were some of his happiest times, especially ranch gatherings. Richard passed on the values of being fair, just, and respectful for other people to his family. He was a great example of a leader who made improvements in organizations for the betterment of the community.
His loving family includes: children, Michael Feist, Marilyn Qvale, Myron (Kathy) Feist, Mark (Rhonda) Feist, Marlene (David) Krebsbach, Maynard (Heidi) Feist, Marvin (Cindy) Feist, Mary (Jerry) Hassler; grandchildren, Sarah (Chad) Steen and their children, Gus, Edith, Piper, and Romy, Adam (Ashley) Feist and their children, Faye, Thomas, and Benjamin, Seth Feist, Jacob (McKenzie) Feil and their children, Benton, Lux, and Willow, Stephanie Feist, Melissa (Arlo) Erickson and their children, Ace and Emma, Aaron Feist and his children, Julien and Jane, Samantha Krebsbach, Carter (Julia) Krebsbach, Danielle (Jordan) Escorcia and their children, Hayden and Everett, Kayla (Tim) Farber and their children, Nora and Edward, Zachary (Kristin)
Hassler, Jordan (Lacy) Hassler and their children, Harrison, Lincoln, and Callahan, Holly (Steven) Schild and their child, Stella; sisters, Agnes (Felix) Leier and Dorothy Leier; sister-in-law, Jean Feist; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Irene; sisters, Anna Aberle, Kathryn Wald, Helen Feist, Mary Rosselli, Emily Sederholm, Magdelyn Ogle, Regina Williams, and Eva Deibert; brothers, Anthony Feist, Edward Feist, Daniel Feist, and Paul Feist; son-in-law, Gerald Qvale; great-grandchild, Baby Feil.
Mass of Christian Burial: Friday, February 2, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Little Flower Catholic Church, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.
Visitation: Thursday from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Little Flower Catholic Church, Minot.
Vigil Prayer Service: Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Little Flower Catholic Church, Minot.
Memorials: are preferred to Bishop Ryan High School.
