Summer fun takes field in Watford City

WATFORD CITY – The Rough Rider Center and Watford City Parks and Recreation are bringing back their annual, multi-day Kick Off to Summer event from Wednesday, June 3, through Sunday, June 7. Residents and visitors are encouraged to get out of the house and enjoy a weekend of free baseball, live entertainment and family-friendly activities.

The Kick Off will start Wednesday with the Walleye vs. Alumni Baseball Game, during which families and baseball fans can enjoy an evening of free food and live music performed by Brandon Foster following the game. Free will offerings will be accepted to support the baseball program.

The 5th annual Watford City Food Truck Rodeo will return to the Rough Rider Center Thursday and run through Saturday. The free, festival-style event will feature local and regional trucks of all tastes and will open at 11 a.m. daily.

Baseball teams from across North Dakota, Montana and Wyoming will compete in the 6th annual Doug Johnsrud Baseball Tournament, with games happening Thursday through Sunday. Following Saturday’s final baseball game, there will be a live performance by Moments Notice.

There will be other free activities throughout the summer kickoff, including a Touch-a-Truck event on Friday from 1-4 p.m. at the Rough Rider Center. Children will be able to explore a variety of trucks, emergency vehicles, heavy equipment and other specialty vehicles. There will be limited noise and sirens for a sensory-friendly quiet hour from 1-2 p.m.
