Fay Devonne Peterson, age 83, passed away Tuesday, December 19th at his new home, Somerset Court Assisted Living in Goldsboro with his family at his side. He was preceded in death by his parents Freeman and Angeline Peterson and his wife, Carol.
Born and raised in Minot, ND, and moved to North Carolina in 1962 for a lifelong career with Maola Dairy. He was a dedicated and hardworking man who just recently retired due to health reasons. He worked his full-time job, and on the weekends, he loved to thrift and resale, through his store Olde Country Antiques, with his wife, Carol until her passing.
If you knew him, you knew he loved sports – all sports. His favorite teams were the Duke Blue Devils, New York Yankees and the Washington Redskins. The Super Bowl and March Madness were his favorite times of the year. One of his proudest moments was when he was inducted into the Minot High School Sports Hall of Fame at his 50th class reunion on September 27, 2003. He was inducted for his time spent on the football team from 1955 through 1957 and being named 2nd Team All State in 1957; being on the basketball team from 1956 through 1958 and being named All State in 1958; and the track team 1957 through 1958.
A private service was held at the Wayne Memorial Park Mausoleum with Pastor Flossie M. Lang officiating where he will rest eternally next to his wife, Carol.
Mr. Peterson is survived by his children, Brenda Peterson Rose, Brad Peterson, Fawn P. Scott and her husband, Eric, and George Key and his special family friend, Flossie M. Lang; a brother, Tom Peterson and wife, Margaret; his grandchildren, Tony Grimes and Mary Rae, Eric Scott, Jr. and wife, Carissa, Martin Rose, II, Lexi Park, Matthew Scott, Samantha Key and husband, Aaron and Cristopher Key; great grandsons, Beryl and Finnick; his nieces, Mary Ann Sadler and Wanda Haynes and nephew, Freeman Peterson; and four great nieces and nephews.
