Leslie Lauer, 84, Mandan, formerly of Minot, ND, passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2023, in a Mandan nursing home.

Eugene Leslie Lauer was born on February 1, 1939, a son of Theodore and Emma (Helm) Lauer in Sheridan County, ND. He was raised and educated in McClusky, ND, where he also worked on the family farm.

On September 25, 1957, Leslie enlisted into the United States Army. He proudly served his country, being stationed in Germany, where he earned the Sharpshooter (45 Cal Sub Machine Gun), Expert (Carbine), Marksman (Rifle). Leslie was honorably discharged September 16, 1959. Following his discharge, he returned to ND, where he owned and operated The Mobile Station in McClusky.

In 1960, Leslie was united in marriage to Wanda Schlichenmayer. To this union two daughters were born, Lynette and Lisa. The family settled in Minot, where Leslie owned and operated “Lauer’s Super Service,” which then was located across from Trinity Health. The couple later divorced. Leslie then purchased the Wagon Wheel Bar in Max, ND, which he ran for several years. After selling the Wagon Wheel, he was a truck driver and worked for GTA feeds for several years. He then managed Gold Nugget Mobile Home Park before finally deciding to take it easy and retire completely in 2011. On February 27, 1988, Leslie was united in marriage to Alice Gehring. Alice died March 16, 1994. He continued to reside in Minot, until recently moving to Mandan to be closer to family.

He is survived by:

Daughters: Lynette Lauer, Lisa (Kent) Nauman; grandchildren: Devon Lauer, Shane Edwardson-Lauer, Leah Nauman and Kenna Nauman; brother Gerald (Barbara) Lauer; companion Eileen Wick; and his friend and former wife Wanda; Alice’s children: Gary Larson, Karen Johnson and Jackie Opland; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Leslie was preceded in death by his parents, wife Alice, siblings Betty Allen, Rodney Lauer, and Inez Krein.

A graveside service will take place in the spring of 2023 at Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
