Eleanor Fogarty

Eleanor H. Fogarty, 92,
long time Minot resident,
died Saturday, June 4,
2022 in a Minot hospital.
Eleanor was born on
September 23, 1929 in
Powers Lake, North Dako-
ta, to Edward and Hilma
(Kleppen) Hallum. She
was raised in Columbus,
ND and received her Stan-
dard Teaching Certificate
in 1951 from Minot State
Teacher’s College. That
fall, she accepted her first
teaching position as an
elementary teacher in
Bowbells, ND.
Eleanor was united in
marriage to Robert “Bob”
Fogarty on November 11,
1952 in Bowbells. While
Bob was serving in the
U.S. Air Force, they were
stationed at numerous lo-
cations including Cut
Bank, MT; Kansas City,
MO; Chanute Air Force
Base near Rantoul, IL;
Aberdeen, SD; Water-
town, SD, and ultimately
the Minot Air Force Base
in 1965. In addition to
raising their four children
and teaching, Eleanor be-
gan night and summer
classes at Minot State Col-
lege where she earned her
Bachelor of Science de-
gree in Elementary Educa-
tion in 1971. She would
continue to teach 4th
grade for over 25 years in
Room 25 at North Plains
Elementary School on the
Minot Air Force Base.
Eleanor was previously
a member of Zion Luth-
eran Church in Minot.
Following her husband’s
passing in January of
1994, she changed her
home church affiliation to
Our Redeemer’s, where
she since attended with
family. She hosted a
weekly in-home Bible
Study group for many
years– one of her most
treasured activities. Be-
fore retiring, she and Bob
traveled and explored the
Hawaiian Islands as well
as a number of European
countries.
Her hobbies and in-
terests included sewing,
taking care of her live-in
parents, hosting and en-
gaging in bible studies,
and playing UNO or dom-
inoes with family and
friends. She especially en-
joyed spending time with
her many grandchildren
and great grandchildren.
Her loving family in-
cludes: children, Mike
(Deb) Fogarty, Minot; Bob
(Wanda) Fogarty, RR
Minot; Steve (Jody) Fogar-
ty, Minot, and Eleanor
Ann (Jon) Erickson, RR
Minot, 14 grandchildren
and 14 great grandchil-
dren.
Eleanor was preceded
in death by her parents,
husband of 41 years, Bob;
and her sister, Mavis
(Louis) Munson
