Irene Olmstead

April 23, 1921-July 31, 2021

Irene Pauline Zieman

was born April 23, 1921,

at Stanton, the youngest

child of John and Kather-

ine (Redman) Zieman.

She was raised on the

family farm until 1930

when they moved to Gol-

den Valley. She attended

country school through

the eighth grade. As a

young girl, she had

several jobs including

picking wood and corn

cobs for fires to cook with

and gathering coal for

heat. She helped with

herding and milking

cows.

In 1940, she moved to

Chewelah, Washington

where she met Harold

Olmstead; they were unit-

ed in marriage on Febru-

ary 19, 1941, in Coeur

d’Alene, Idaho. In 1946,

Harold and Irene returned

to a farm north of

Parshall, North Dakota

where they raised their

family and farmed.

Harold passed away in

1988 and Irene moved

into Parshall in 1990. In

2013, Irene moved to

Minot and made her home

at Somerset Court.

Irene was a kind,

hard-working woman. She

enjoyed farm work and

gardening and was always

thankful for their harvest

and produce. Her enter-

tainment included read-

ing, playing cards, and

visiting with friends. She

was a member of the

Parshall Golden Jet Set,

the German Lutheran

Church and later of First

Evangelical Lutheran

Church in Parshall. She

served as treasurer of

Wayzetta Township for

many years.

Irene’s life was blessed

with a loving family, good

health, and longevity. On

Saturday, July 31, 2021, at

the age of 100, Irene Pau-

line Olmstead, passed to

her heavenly home.

among us.

Irene is survived by her

daughters and

sons-in-law, Mary and

Danny Muhlbradt of

Bismarck, Linda and Ken

Ruud of Parshall, Joann

and Francis Brunsell of

Washburn, and Jean and

Paul Hendrickson of

Parshall; 14 grandchil-

dren; 22

great-grandchildren; and 2

great-great grandchildren;

and many nieces and

nephews.

She was preceded in

death by her husband;

son, Gerald;

great-grandchildren, Wes-

ton Hove and Haven Hen-

drickson; siblings, Ange-

line Maas, Erna Simphen-

derfer, Wilmer Zieman,

Ida Jassman, and Hertha

Treude; and infant broth-

ers, Ervin and Erhardt.

Funeral: Thursday,

August 5, 2021, at 11 a.m.

at First Lutheran Church,

Parshall

Visitation: Wednesday,

from 1-4 p.m. at Langhans
