Joseph “Joe” Brunner,
73, Kenmare, passed away
on Friday, April 9, 2021 at
a Kenmare hospital.
Joe was born on No-
vember 23, 1947 in Minot,
North Dakota to Joseph
and Carol (Lindbo)
Brunner. He was raised
and educated in the Don-
nybrook area, graduating
from Donnybrook High
School.
After graduation, Joe
worked at the Don-
nybrook Elevator before
becoming manager at the
Elevators in Des Lacs and
Norma. He then pur-
chased a backhoe and
started JB Excavating.
Later, Joe worked as an
operator for Harris Con-
struction and then Farden
Construction.
Joe was once married to
JoAnne Berg. From this
union came four children.
The couple later divorced.
In 1985, Joe married Shir-
ley Melin.
Joe loved to fish. He
spent many weekends
fishing with Shirley and
visiting friends at Van
Hook. Joe also loved golf-
ing, pool, and having his
morning coffee with
friends.
Joe is survived by his
wife, Shirley; son, Jason
(Brenda) Brunner, Grand
Junction, CO; daughter,
Traci (Joel) Kirby, Ashton,
NE; stepsons, Kirt (Ginny)
Jensen and Mark Jensen,
both of Kenmare; grand-
children, Teagan, Ashtyn,
and Sloan Kirby, and Aus-
tin, Tyler, Shelby
Brunner; brothers, Jim
(Linda), Des Lacs, Rick
(Marilyn), Mohall, ND,
and Steve Brunner, Fair-
banks, AK; sisters, Connie
(Marvin) Unterseher,
Velva,ND and Sheila
(Norris) Severtson, Graf-
ton, ND; and numerous
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in
death by his parents,
Joseph and Carol Brunner;
sons, Brian and Michael
Brunner; sister, Donna
Brunner; and nephew,
Jayden Mattern.
A memorial service will
be held on Friday, April
16, 2021 at 11 a.m. at
Trinity Lutheran Church
in Kenmare. The service
will be video recorded for
the public to view and
