Shirley Vaughn (Herr) Struckness
Aug. 19, 1933-Nov. 12, 2020
Shirley Vaughn Struck-
ness passed at St.
Benedict Care Center in
Monticello, Minnesota,
November 12, 2020 from
complications of COVID.
Shirley was born to Ed-
ward and Ruth (Soder-
berg) Herr on August 19,
1933 in Kief, North Dako-
ta. She was married to
Clarence Bud Struckness
for 57 years until his
death in 2007. Shirley
worked her entire life in
the restaurant industry at
the Elks, Speedway, and
the Hacienda in Minot
and Burlington, ND. She
happily “shared” the
famous Speedway shrimp
sauce with anyone who
asked for it! Shirley’s old-
est son, Jim, and family
were blessed to have Shir-
ley live with them from
2008 until 2017 when she
began her “assisted living”
journey. During these
years she spent at Jim’s
she had adventures she
never dreamed of. Includ-ing highlights of attending
her granddaughter’s wed-
ding in Costa Rica, vaca-
tions in Cancun, week
long stays at several lakes
celebrating her
great-grandson Tatum’s
4th of July birthdays, and
partying at Moondance
Country Fest. She enjoyed
helping Sue folding
clothes, pulling weeds,
canning tomatoes and
cooking her wonderful
meals. Her most cher-
ished times were spent
spoiling her grandkids.
She is survived by: her
3 children, Jim Struckness
(Susan) of Hanover, MN,
Dale Struckness (Marion)
of Minot, ND, and Charles
“Chuck” Struckness of Las
Vegas, NV; 7 grandchil-
dren, Chris, Norah, Mike,
Chad, Elizabeth, Katy and
Sarah; 11
great-grandchildren, Zoe,
Kiera, Meaghan, Mia,
Damon, Tanner and Lau-
ra, Tatum, Tucker Aura
and Savannah.
Her brother, Vernon
Herr, preceded her in
death.
Shirley will be cremat-
ed and buried with her
husband, Bud, at the
North Dakota Veteran’s
Cemetery. We celebrated
her life everyday she was
with us and will continue
to celebrate her life with
the wonderful memories
we have. During this time
of limited gatherings, the
family has created a Face-
book memorial for friends
to view and enjoy our
favorite memories.
Arrangements have
been entrusted to The
Peterson Chapel of Buf-
falo and St.
Michael-Albertville.
