Joseph A. Krumwiede,
78, of Devils Lake, N.D.,
passed away on Sunday,
August 23, 2020 at his
home, rural Devils Lake
ND.
Joseph “Joe” Allen
Krumwiede was born No-
vember 24th, 1941, the
son of William O. and El-
len (Roberts) Krumwiede
in Minot, ND. He was
baptized and confirmed at
St. Cecilia’s Catholic
Church in Velva. He grew
up on the farm near Vol-
taire and attended Vol-
taire Grade School and
graduated from Velva
High School in 1960.
Joe enlisted in the U.S.
Marine Corps June 1960
and was honorably
discharged June 1964. He
then served in the Army
National Guard for twenty
years. He worked for the
Soo Line Railroad and
Basin Electric Power Plant
in Voltaire for several
years and then attended
Lake Region Junior Col-
lege, receiving an Associ
ates of Arts Degree in
drafting. He was em-
ployed by Sioux Manufac-
turing Co. for nearly 20
years. He worked for a
time at Soper Construc-
tion and later worked year
round for Becker Farms.
He married Jeanette
“Jeanie” Decoteau on June
30, 1972 at St. Benedict’s
Catholic Church in rural
Belcourt ND. Jeanie
passed away February 5,
1999.
Joe was an avid NRA
member and very
knowledgeable about
guns. He had several
faithful canine compan-
ions through the years
and now enjoyed the com-
pany of Trigger and Pais-
ley.
Joe was a humble, sim-
ple man who loved his
Lord, served his country
with honor and treasured
his family and friends.
Joe is survived by: his
daughter, Jessica Weigel,
and grandchildren Sabri-
na, Madison, Allan and
Mary Elizabeth Weigel;
brother Bill (Jackie)
Krumwiede of Voltaire;
sisters Jean (friend Jan)
Krumwiede of Minot and
Mary Ann (Dean) Peter-
schick of Surrey, ND; spe-
cial friends Jason and El-
ise Swanson and many
nieces, nephews, and
cousins.
Joe was preceded in
death by: his wife Jeanie,
parents, and brother
James Krumwiede.
Mass of Christian Buri-
al for Joe will be held on
Monday, August 31, 2020
at 1:00 p.m. at the Gilbert-
son Funeral Home, Devils
Lake ND with Reverend
Steven Wirth celebrating
the Mass. Burial in the
North Dakota Veterans
Cemetery at rural Mandan
at a later date. Military
Honors will be accorded
by the Neathery-Simensen
Post #756 and the North
Dakota Military Funeral
Honors Team. Visitation
will be held on Monday,
August 31st from 9:00
a.m. until time of service.
