Elsie Aschenbrenner

Elsie Aschenbrenner,

89, Surrey, died Thurs-

day, July 9, 2020, in a

Minot nursing home.

Elsie (Mattern) was

born in 1931, a daughter

of Elbridge and Viola

(Armstrong) Mattern, on

the family farmstead

north of Tolley, ND. She

was raised on the family

farm and attended grades

one through sixth at

Grover and Bail School,

rural Tolley. Elsie attend-

ed her remaining school

years at Lorraine School,

where she graduated. She

then assisted her family

on the farm, and later

worked at Minot Steam

and Laundry.

In 1953, Elsie was unit-

ed in marriage to Robert

L. Aschenbrenner at St.

Leo the Great Roman

Catholic Church. The

family made their home

in Surrey, ND, where El-

sie was the bookkeeper for

her husband’s company

“Bob’s Trucking.” Elsie

later entered Minot Health

and Rehab, where she re-

ceived wonderful care

from the staff, especially

Lori Tickerhoof, who was

able to keep her connect-

ed to relatives during the

Covid-19 times.

Elsie was a member of

St. Leo the Great Roman

Catholic Church, the

Christian Mothers,

Knights of Columbus, and

the Surrey Senior Ci-

tizens. She enjoyed the

outdoors, gardening and

planting flowers. She was

a loving wife, mother,

grandmother, great-

grandmother, sister and

friend and will be missed

by all that knew her.

(Mike) Dunkel, Warroad,

(Mallori), Bryce (Jill),

Lynne (Dave), Brittany

(Bryan), Chelsey (James)

and Dylan; six

great-grandchildren, Blair,

Gavin, Bennett, Carter,

Hayes, and Beau; siblings,

Ray (Marlyn) Mattern,

Minot, Darlene Sannes,

Seattle, WA; a

sister-in-law Norma Mat-

tern, Bottineau, ND.

Several nieces, nephews

and cousins also survive.

Elsie was preceded in

death by her husband of

62 years Robert; parents;

infant daughter, Patricia;

great-granddaughter, Gra-

celyn Nicholle Aschen-

brenner; siblings Orville

Mattern, Lois (Westley)

Horst, Ardis (William)

Heimbush; and a brother-

in-law Lowell Sannes.

with a family vigil prayer

service at 5 pm in

Thompson-Larson Fun-

eral Home Chapel, Minot.
