Audrey M. Savelkoul,
86, Minot, formerly of
Lansford, ND, passed
away on Sunday, July 26,
2020 in a Minot nursing
home.
Audrey Mae Maxton
was born on August 19,
1933, a daughter of Robert
and Mable (Eamon) Max-
ton in Minot, ND. She at-
tended school in Lans-
ford, ND. Audrey learned
to work at a young age, as-
sisting her mother at
Mable’s cafe during the
meal hours.
On July 29, 1951, Au-
drey was united in mar-
riage to Donald Savelkoul
in Lansford, ND. They
made their home in Lans-
ford, where together they
raised eight children,
farmed and ranched. In
addition to being a farm
wife and mother, Audrey
held several business ven-
tures. In 1975, she opened
a ceramic shop in the
basement of their farm-
house. Later, she started
Souvenirs by Audrey,
making collectibles for
small town centennials,
the North Dakota Centen-
nial, and the Norsk Host-
fest. The business ex-
panded to include sales in
13 states and two Canadi-
an provinces. Audrey was
also nominated for the
YWCA Woman of Distinc-tion Honor, where she
shared her testimony and
held many public speak-
ing engagements.
In 1990 Audrey then
opened Dakota Heritage,
in the Dakota Square
Mall, Minot, ND, which
she operated for eight
years where she enjoyed
the day to day operations
of the business. In 1993
they then retired from
farming and they moved
to Minot.
They enjoyed spending
time at the lake cabin at
Fish n’ Camp Court near
Parshall, ND, traveling in
the RV Audrey purchased,
wintering in Arizona and
Texas, and was active in
the St. Philomena’s
Catholic Church and Our
Lady of Grace Catholic
Church.
Audrey is survived by:
Children: Stanley (Lin-
da) Savelkoul, Lansford,
ND, Bruce Savelkoul,
Minot, ND, Scott (Myra)
Savelkoul, Hazen, ND,
JoAnne Kirk, Beulah, ND
and Carolyn (Pete) Peder-
sen, Surprise, AZ;
daughters-in-law: Vickie
Savelkoul and Cindy
Savelkoul; 13 grandchil-
dren: 17 great-grand- chil-
dren; several nieces,
nephews and cousins also
survive.
Audrey was preceded
in death by her parents,
husband Donald, three
sons Henry, Kenny and
Brian, a grandson Benja-
min Savelkoul, a
daughter-in-law Anna
Marie Savelkoul and si-
blings: Bud Maxton, Larry
Maxton, Jim Maxton, and
Jean Jamen.
