Gladyce F. (Bullock) Schei

Aug. 8, 1920 - May 30, 2020

Our Beloved Mother

and Grandmother Gladyce

F. “Bullock” Schei 99,

Garrison, passed away Sa-

turday, May 30, 2020. Gla-

dyce was born August 8,

1920 in Wahpeton, North

Dakota to Elmer and

Florence “Trebil” Bullock.

She graduated High

School 1938 and attended

Wahpeton State School of

Science for one year prior

to moving to Minot, North

Dakota in 1940 with her

parents. She married

Alfred Melroy Schei

“Roy” June 27, 1941 in

Minot. Their first

daughter Connie was born

in 1942. They all moved

to Seattle, Washington for

two years where daughter

Margaret “Peggy” was

born 1945. They returned

to Minot after the War and

son Richard was born in

1948. Roy, Gladyce and

family moved to Garrison,

North Dakota in 1952,

where Roy was custodian

of the Garrison High

School for 17 years. Gla-

dyce only intended to

help get things started at

the school by helping

Roy. She also provided

daycare for children of

school faculty at the end

of the school day (her

second work day) and re-

turned the children to the

school so their parents

could take them home.

Roy passed away in 1970

and Gladyce continued to

work at the school, cul-

minating in 33 years of

service before her retire-

ment in 1989. Gladyce en-

joyed it when former stu-

dents stopped by to visit

her and she appreciated

cards and letters she re-

ceived throughout the

years from several stu-

dents up to the time of

her passing.

Gladyce always had a

warm, pleasant smile and

sincere welcome to all.

She always enjoyed chil-

dren and people, wanting

to help them whenever

possible. She served as a

volunteer for the Garrison

Memorial Hospital and

Benedictine Living Center

for many years. She was a

member of the United

Church of Christ and

taught Sunday School and

Bible School. She also

served as the President of

the Naomi Circle for

many years. Additionally,

she served on different

boards within the Garris-

on community including

the Manor Board, the

Benedictine Nursing

Home Board and the

Community Chest Board.

She enjoyed writing poe-

try, reading, baking and

sewing. She loved spend-

ing time with her

grandchildren, who were

all very special to her, as

well as with family and

friends. She enjoyed col-

lecting Angels which her

friends, grandchildren

and Son helped ensure

that she had a large col-

lection. Gladyce enjoyed

traveling to Oregon, Texas

and California to visit

family. She was an in-

credibly kind, compas-

sionate and loving person

who will be greatly

missed by all who knew

her.
