Leo Hennessy

Leo Hennessy, 87, life-
long Minot resident, died
on Sunday, November 10,
2019.
Leo Daniel Hennessy
was born on January 28,
1932 in Minot to Leo D.
and Josephine (Harmon)
Hennessy. He was raised
and educated in the Minot
area. At the age of 17 he
enlisted in the U.S. Army
on January 28, 1949. He
served in Korea and re-
ceived a Purple Heart for
injuries sustained on Sep-
tember 15, 1950 making
him the youngest service-
man injured in combat
during the Korean War.
He received his honorable
discharge on August 18,
1952 and returned to
Minot. He became em-
ployed by the Great
Northern
Railway/Burlington North-
ern Railroad on Sep-
tember 3, 1952 as a fire-
man.
Leo married Darlene
Alexander on November
27, 1953 in Sidney, MT.
They made their home in
Minot where he contin-
ued his career with the
railroad. He retired in
1993 as a locomotive en-
gineer following forty-one
years of service. In their
retirement Leo and Dar-
lene resided in Minot and
spent the winter months
in Arizona. Darlene died
on March 13, 2012. Leo
resided fulltime in Minot
until his death.
Leo was a lifetime
member of the Disabled
American Veterans and
American Legion Post
#26. He was a member of
the Veterans of Foreign
Wars Post #753, Brother-
hood of Locomotive En-
gineers #695 and a former
member of the Golden K
Kiwanis Club, Elks Lodge
and Eagles Aerie.
Leo’s loving family in-
cludes: his sons, Leo Hen-
nessy (Leslie Tengelsen)
of Boise ID and Delwyn
(Monica) Hennessy of
Grand Rapids, MN;
grandchildren: Jenny
Hennessy, Seattle, WA
and Kristen Hennessy,
Boise, ID; siblings, Marion
Evenson of Minot, Lois
Olson of Chandler, AZ,
Joyce Eggert of Minot,
Tom (Susan) Hennessy of
Bellingham, WA; and
numerous nieces,
nephews and cousins.
Leo was preceded in
death by: his parents;
wife; and siblings, Harley
(Susan) Hennessy and
Duane (Mary) Hennessy;
and in-laws, Virgil Even-
son, Warren Olson and
Gordon Eggert.
Celebration of the Life
of Leo Hennessy: Friday,
November 22, 2019 at
11:00 a.m. in the Minot
Veterans of Foreign Wars
Post 753.
Interment will be at the
New Veterans Section of
Rosehill Memorial Park,
Minot.
Visitation: Thursday,
November 21, 2019 from
4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in
Thomas Family Funeral
