Joseph Streeper

Joseph Streeper, 84,

Velva and formerly of

Sawyer and Dillon, MT,

died on Friday, Sep-

tember 13, 2019 in a

Minot hospital.

Joseph Briar Streeper

was born on July 17, 1935

in Minot to Joseph and

Lola (Briar) Streeper. He

was raised and educated

in Sawyer and graduated

from Sawyer High School

in 1953. He attended the

University of North Dako-

ta – Grand Forks, but col-

lege was interrupted by

his entry into the U.S.

Army. He served from

July of 1954 until March

of 1956 primarily in the

Bahamas prior to his

honorable discharge. He

returned to college at

U.N.D. and received his

Bachelor of Science De-

gree in Physics. Following

his graduation, he was

employed by an engineer-ing firm in Anaheim, CA,

and as a substitute teach-

er. Later, he received a

Master’s Degree in Phy-

sics from U.N.D.

Joseph was once mar-

ried to Donna Engelkes

and they made their home

in Dillon, MT, from

1969-1980 where Joseph

was a Professor in the

Physics Department of

Western Montana Univer-

sity. He transferred to

Minot State University in

1980 and was a member

of the faculty there until

1998. During this time he

resided in Sawyer. Also,

he played guitar and bass

in various dance bands for

many years. Most recent-

ly, he had resided in Vel-

va for the past year.

Joseph especially en-

joyed traveling, fine foods

and wine, skiing, reading,

movies and beautiful

scenery.

Joseph is survived by:

his children: Terry Brevig

of Karlsruhe, J. Steven

Streeper of Minot and El-

izabeth “Lisa” Caplis

(Micky Merck) of

Karlsruhe; special

son-in-law: Timm

Schoenwald of Aurora,

CO; dear friend and moth-

er of his children: Donna

Engelkes of Monida, MT;

grandchildren: LaTeri

(Darren) Ponsiano, Gre-

gory Schoenwald, Lachele

Klink (Matthew Watters),

Shawn Streeper and

Jareth Streeper;

great-grandchildren: Brad-

ley and Bailey Ponsiano

and Charlee Klink and

several nieces, nephews

and cousins including

Marsha Renner, Barbara

Byorum and Bruce

Byorum.

Joseph was preceded in

death by: his parents, sis-

ter: Carole Byorum and

infant brother: Bruce.

Celebration of the Life

of Joseph Streeper: Mon-

day, September 23, 2019

at 11:00 a.m. in the

Sawyer School Auditori-

um with Pastor Jonathan

Starks officiating.

Interment will be in the

Sawyer Community

Cemetery.

Visitation: Sunday from

1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.

in the Thomas Family

Funeral Home, Minot.

Memorials are preferred

to the Sawyer Cemetery or

Hospice of Beaverhead

County, Montana.
