Neil C. Fimreite, 82,
Norwich, passed away
Sunday, August 18, 2019
at a Trinity Hospital in
Minot.
Neil Clark Fimreite was
born November 24, 1936,
the son of Selmer and
Ethel (Orth) Fimreite, in
Minot, ND. He was raised
on the family farm near
Norwich and educated in
Norwich and graduated
from Norwich High
School in 1954. Neil
enlisted in the United
States Air Force April
1955, and was stationed at
Keesler Air Force Base in
Biloxi, MS completing
Aircraft Control and
Warning Operator training
November 1955. He
proudly served his coun-
try earning the “Good
Conduct Medal” during
his service, completing an
overseas tour in Germany,
with active duty to De-
cember 1958, and receiv-
ing an Honorable
Discharge April 1963.
On March 30, 1962 Neil
and MaryJane Dockter un-
ited in marriage at First
Lutheran Church, Gran-
ville, ND. Soon following,
they moved to Minneapo
lis, MN where Neil com-
pleted the IBM School
certification program.
While in Minneapolis,
their first child Douglas
Neil was born. They re-
turned to Minot, ND in
early 1963, and Sheryl
Jane was born later that
year. Neil worked for
Sweetheart Bakery for a
short time before joining
the Minot Post Office in
1963. Neil moved his fam-
ily to the Fimreite home-
stead in Norwich, ND in
1969.
While employed at the
Minot Post Office, Neil re-
ceived numerous awards
for his work ethic and job
performance. He often
worked extended hours
and days to accommodate
the holiday season, retir-
ing after 30 years of ser-
vice in August 1993. His
wife of 53 years, Mary
Jane, passed away on
April 23, 2015.
Neil was a quiet, caring
and responsible man. He
was an avid gardener and
instilled this love of horti-
culture in his own chil-
dren. As his children
grew, he also grew to meet
the “new” needs of his
children, and helping out
with enthusiasm. Over
the years he assisted with
house building, wood fin-
ishing, small engine and
auto repair and mainte-
nance, anything and
everything, in addition to
helping friends and neigh-
bors. He had a passion for
weather, often calling to
forewarn others of incle-
ment weather, or just to
“check on the weather”
mere miles from his
home. The Weather Chan-
nel was his mainstay.
Lastly, he will forever
be known for his love of
pranks and humor, from
scaring his little sister
pretending to be a bear,
portraying the cartoon
character “Dagwood,” his
Santa Claus tricks, to his
famous rubber nose, and
mischievous grin.
