Marilyn E. Gabelein
Marilyn Elise Fjeld Ga-
belein, 72, Clinton, Wash-
ington, formerly of Minot,
died Sunday, January 27,
2019 in an Everett, Wash-
ington hospital from a
blood clot.
Marilyn, the daughter of
James M. and Thelma
(Franklin) Fjeld of Doug-
las, was born June 12,
1946 in Minot. She at-
tended country school
and graduated from Minot
High School in 1964. She
married Verlane Gabelein
of Washington on No-
vember 12, 1965. They
were married 52 years un-
til his death in 2017.
She was the ultimate
nurturer and caregiver
who spent most of her
time gathering in those
who needed someone to
love or mentor them. She
symbolized kindness, in-
credible patience and
unwavering commitment
to family and friends. She
volunteered and donated
countless hours to the
south Whidbey Island
community. She was the
founder and leader of the
Knight Riders Horse 4-H
Club and earned many
state and local awards.
Being 100 percent
Norwegian, she was a
charter member of the
Daughters of Norway, Es-
ter Moe Lodge. She was
also a member of the
Holmes Harbor Rod and
Gun Club, Eagles, Useless
Bay Golf and Country
Club, American Legion
and the Whidbey Island
Fair Association.
She assisted her hus-
band in many business
ventures such as the car
wash, rental houses, vine-
yard, timber, cattle, water
systems, restaurants, mini
storage units and others.
Marilyn is survived by
her daughters, Elise Marie
(Adam) Gabelein, Emily
Jean (Jake) McDougall,
grandson, Konnor Verlane
McDougall, all of Clinton,
Washington; brother,
James T. (Marge) Fjeld
and sister, Debra Fjeld,
both of Minot, and
numerous relatives and
friends here and in Wash-
ington.
Marilyn is preceded in
death by her husband,
parents, in-laws and other
family members.
Funeral was Saturday,
February 2, 2019 at the
Bayview Cemetery, Clin-
ton, Washington. Memori
