Tuesday, December 25,
2018, at Trinity Homes in
Minot.
Marian Blanche Skogen
was born December 24,
1921, the daughter of Carl
and Gunhild (Iverson)
Skogen, in rural Remer,
Minnesota. The family
moved to a farm near
Roseglen, ND, when Mari-
an was two years old. She
was raised on the farm
and attended elementary
school in Roseglen and
graduated from Ryder
High School.
Following her high
school graduation, she
went on to pursue her de-
gree in nursing in Roches-
ter, MN. Nursing was her
passion throughout her
life.
On January 15, 1944,
Marian married Louis
Clifford Bergan, in Ro-
chester, MN. Due to
Clifford’s service to his
country and his occupa-
tion, they moved a lot.
They had lived in various
cities in North Dakota,
where Marian actively
pursued her nursing
career. They completed
their family by bringing
into their lives their three
sons: Eric, Paul and Brian.
The family also lived in
various cities in South
Dakota, where Marian
worked as a public health
nurse.
They then moved to Ba-
tavia, Illinois, where Mari-
an worked for the State of
Illinois as a nurse in the
penal system. On May 12,
1979, at the age of 58,
Marian received her
Bachelor’s degree in Nurs-
ing from Northern Illinois
University.
Later in life, Marian and
Cliff made their home in
Minot, ND, where she was
an active member of First
Lutheran Church, Sons of
Norway, and the Scandi-
navian Heritage Center.
Cliff passed away April
26, 1995.
She enjoyed reading
and writing letters.
Her loving family in-
cludes: son and
daughter-in-law, Paul and
Margo Bergan, Oak Creek,
CO; grandchildren, Karen
(Steve) Tatro, Kendra Ber-
gan, Jeremiah Roiko, and
Jason (Alison) Roiko;
great-grandchildren,
Nicole and Garrett Tatro,
Emma George, Oliver and
Roux Roiko; sisters, Jean-
ice (George) Officer,
Minot, Jeanette (Russell)
Johanson, Minot; and
numerous nieces and
nephews.
Marian was preceded
in death by: her parents;
husband, Clifford; sons,
Eric and Brian Bergan; in-
fant sister, Marcella Sko-
gen; brothers, Irving and
Carlyle Skogen; sister,
Grace Hays.
Funeral: Wednesday,
January 2, 2019, at 11:00
a.m. at First Lutheran
Church, Minot.
At Marian’s request, fol-
lowing the funeral ser-
vice, her body will be
donated to the University
of North Dakota Medical
School in Grand Forks,
ND.
Interment: will take
place at a later date at Im-
manuel Lutheran
Cemetery, Roseglen, ND.
Visitation: Tuesday
from 3 to 5 p.m. at
Thompson-Larson Fun-
eral Home, Minot.
