Raziye Hoeven

Dec. 16, 1930-Aug. 17, 2017

Raziye Hoeven, 86,

Minot, passed away

Thursday, August 17,

2017, in her home.

Raziye Yusuf was born

December 16, 1930, the

daughter of Kemal and

Halida Yusuf, in Tokyo,

Japan. She was raised in

Tokyo, where she attend-

ed school, spoke Japanese

and modeled. Raziye

moved to the United

States in 1956, and made

her home in Los Angeles,

where she became a hair-

stylist. Always draped

in chic designer clothing,

Raziye was a bonafide

fashion plate who in-

spired many with her na-

tural sense of style and

fashion.

Raziye married John H.

“Jack” Hoeven, Jr. in June

of 1984, in Minot, ND.

She was a devoted wife,

sister, aunt, and friend to

all who knew and loved

her. In addition, she was

an extraordinary gar-

dener, a fabulous cook

and a gifted painter. She

loved her family dearly

and enjoyed spending

time going to aerobics and

having coffee with her

many friends.

Raziye cherished Sun-

day dinners with her

mother, “Ani,” older

brother Ayaz, and her

youngest sister, Hatice,

along with their children,

an important family tradi-

tion shared together,

every weekend and holi-

days in Los Angeles for 30

years.

Raziye’s desire to be-

come a Christian was real-

ized when she was in-

spired by Pope Francis

while he was visiting the

United States in Sep-

tember of 2015. After

watching the Pope speak

during one of his appear-

ances in Pennsylvania,

God provided her perfect

clarity to seek baptism in

order to become a practic-ing Christian. We are so

grateful to serve such a

loving and mighty God.

Her loving family in-

cludes: husband of 33

years, John H. “Jack” Hoe-

ven, Jr., (who recently

passed into eternity on

August 19, 2017); step-

daughters, Becky Elder,

Sarah Hoeven, Westmin-

ster, CA; stepson and

West Los Angeles, CA; Jon
