Onna Bockness

July 16, 1931-June 20, 2017

Onna Evelyn Bockness,

85, Hazen and formerly of

Minot, died on Tuesday,

June 20, 2017 at her

residence.

Onna was born on July

16, 1931 in rural Plaza,

North Dakota to Alfred

and Christina (Trulson)

Olson. She was raised on

the family farm and edu-

cated at a country school

through eighth grade. Fol-

lowing her education, she

assisted the family on the

farm in Mountrail County

for a few years. She was

employed in Minot at a lo-

cal bus depot lunch

counter for two years be-

fore returning to assist

once again on the family

farmstead. Onna was then

employed at the Kreske

Dime Store in Minot.

Onna married Glen

Bockness on November

24, 1953 in Minot. Follow-

ing their marriage, they

moved to a farmstead

north of Plaza until 1959

at which time they moved

to Minot. This union was

blessed with four chil-

dren.

While living in Minot,

Onna was employed at

the Moose Lodge followed

by Tony’s Tavern for eight

years. In 1978, she began

working at Trinity Nurs-

ing Home as a dietary aide

until her retirement in

1987. After the flood of

2011, Onna and Glen

moved to Hazen, to be

near their daughters.

Onna was a former

member of Augustana

Lutheran Church, Minot,

where she was an active

volunteer. She was also a

member of the Eagles

Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary,

and the American Legion

Auxiliary. Her hobbies in-

cluded baking and can-

ning, reading, and spend-

ing time with her family

and friends.

Onna’s loving family

includes: her husband,

Glen; children: Gerhard

(Gary) Bockness of Hemet,

CA, Lavina (Steve) Myhre

of Hazen, ND, Gladwin

Bockness of Minot, and

Carol (Greg) Boyer of

Hazen, ND; grandchil-

dren: Lindsy (Shane)

Berg, Codi (Ryan) Olsen,

Glen (Wendy) Bockness,

Garret Bockness, Waylon

(Britta) Boyer, and

Deserae (Josh) Cole;

great-grandchildren, Jace

Olsen and Jacqueline, Kel-

lie and Kendall Berg along

with numerous nieces,

nephews and her constant

companion and family

dog, Cookie.

Onna was preceded in

death by: her parents; sis-

ters: Ruby, Alvina, Lila,

Eldoris, and Norma;

brothers: Chester, Floyd,

Arthur, Delnore, Walter,

Theodore and LeRoy.

p.m. on Friday, June 30,

2017 in Christ Lutheran

Church, Minot.

Burial: Rosehill

Memorial Park, Minot.

Visitation: Thursday,

June 29, 2017 3:00 p.m. –

6:00 p.m. in Thomas Fam-

ily Funeral Home, Minot.
