Mona Mae Kvernum,
Columbus, ND: Mona, 86,

Mona was born October
3, 1930 to Roy Bonsness
and Anna (Helseth) Bons-
ness in Columbus, ND
and was the fourth of ten
children.
After graduating from
High School in 1948, she
married Archie Wayne
Bywater and had a son,
Mark. Archie and Mona
divorced later and in
1953, she married Dean
Anthony Kvernum and
had three children:
Timothy, Scott and Paula.
Mona’s hard work eth-
ics were an inspiration.
She served the patrons of
the Border Triangle Club
in Larson, ND for twenty
years. Dean and Mona
owned and operated D&M
Oil Company and The
Columbus Theater for
many years. Mona and
her sister, Sharon, were
partners in a painting
business for approximate-ly 10 years; when Sharon
retired, Mona continued
the business and worked
with her close friend, Ju-
lie Brenno, for another 10
years. Although Mona
said she really didn’t en-
joy cooking and baking,
she was very good at it
and known for volunteer-
ing that talent for many
family get-togethers and
community activities
throughtout the years.
In the family’s earlier
years, they enjoyed many
gatherings (with cousins
galore), at the K-L-K Cabin
(Kvernum-Lautenschlager-Kihle
Cabin) at Kenosee Lake in
Canada; there was a
second explanation of
what K-L-K stood forÃ-.
“Kids-Lots-Of-Kids”. Both
Dean and Mona enjoyed
golfing for many years
and were part of a pretty
strong bowling team with
Mona’s sister, Karmen
and husband, Dean Kihle.
Mona is survived by
her children, Mark and
Peggy (Powell) Kvernum
(Rapid City, SD), Scott
and Laura (Daniel) Kver-
num (Williston, ND) and
Paula Kvernum (Mandan,
ND), along with, 7
grandchildren and 11
great-grandchildren. She
was preceded in death by
her parents, Roy and
Anna Bonsness, her hus-
band, Dean Kvernum, her
son, Timothy, two broth-
ers Byron and Neil and
two sisters, Virginia and
Karmen.

eral Home of Crosby, ND
