Tribes awarded funds for opioid treatment

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded a $486,178 grant to the Three Affiliated Tribes (MHA Nation) to expand access to medications and treatment for individuals with opioid use disorder, U.S. Sen. Kevin Cramer, R-ND, announced. The award is part of a total of nearly $1.9 million awarded to organizations in North Dakota to support substance abuse and mental health services, food and drug research and addiction research. The North Dakota Department of Agriculture received $124,894 for Food and Drug Administration research.

State issues algal bloom advisories, warnings

BISMARCK – The North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality has issued a harmful algal bloom advisory for Lake Tschida in Grant County, bringing the number of state waterbodies under an active advisory or warning to seven. Harmful algal blooms, also called HABs or blue-green algae, can develop quickly in warm, sunny weather. Some blooms produce cyanotoxins that can make people, pets and livestock sick if the water is swallowed or touched. An advisory means a bloom is present in portions of the waterbody.
