Fjord Folk Fest to celebrate Nordic culture
Uffda Foundation has announced a new celebration of Nordic heritage, community and culture in Minot.
Fjord Folk Fest is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Aug. 21 and 22.
The board of Norsk Hostfest, a Scandinavian festival that had grown into a national and international attraction during its more than four decades in Minot, announced earlier this year that the festival would be discontinued for reasons of declining attendance and finances. Supporters weren’t inclined to let the concept of a Scandinavian festival slip away entirely, though.
Amber Grause of Bismarck, a former Miss Norsk Hostfest and executive director of the Uffda Foundation, revealed the name and dates for the new festival on Friday, March 6.
“Following the dissolution of Norsk Hostfest, many felt the loss of a beloved tradition that had brought people together for decades. Its conclusion created a void, but it also sparked reflection about what should come next. From those conversations came a shared vision: to build something new that honors the spirit of the past while moving forward with renewed energy and purpose,” she said on social media. “Fjord Folk Fest was born from that vision. This festival represents renewal, collaboration and a strong commitment to preserving and celebrating the Nordic traditions that have shaped our region. While we recognize and appreciate the legacy that came before us, Fjord Folk Fest will establish its own identity — rooted in heritage and built for the future.”
Grause said the new festival will offer two stages of entertainment, along with food, crafts, artisans, educational classes and more. Additional details will be shared as festival planning continues in the months ahead.
Vendor applications will open early next week.
