Double fatal crash occurs near Wilton

WILTON – An 80-year-old Williston woman and a 21-year-old Bismarck woman died from injuries received when the vehicles they were driving crashed on U.S. Highway 83, six miles south of Wilton, Sunday, Feb. 8.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, at 10:26 a.m., a 2021 GMC Acadia, driven by the Williston woman, was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Highway 83. The Acadia struck a northbound 2016 Nissan Maxima, driven by the Bismarck woman, head-on. Both drivers were transported to a Bismarck medical center and pronounced dead due to injuries sustained in the crash.

The Williston woman was wearing a seat belt and the Bismarck woman was not wearing a seat belt, according to the Highway Patrol.

According to the Highway Patrol, the road was wet at the time of the crash and due to fog the visibility was about 100 yards.

The northbound lanes of Highway 83 were closed to non-residential traffic in the area of the crash for about two hours Sunday.

The crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
